View original topic: Battey left on charger

Damn - Just realized I left my battery on the charger in the garage but not in the bus yesterday. Now I'm 300 miles from home. Not sure what to think. Won't be home til Sunday night. Don't think it has a shut off.

Is the house toast? Think I should bust ass home to flip the switch?

What kind of charger? Most won't let it overcharge so you should be good I would think.

Cheap ass charger.

Well that is vague. Where did you get it? Any model info? Is it an automatic charger or manual? What kind of settings? I have a pretty cheap charger that is automatic and will not overcharge. I have a cheap battery tender for my bike that is supposed to be left on for long periods. Cheap isn't a determinant in all cases.

How long has it been on the charger?

most modern battery chargers trickle down as the battery charges, but you might boil away some of the electrolyte from the heat of continuous charging. When you get home ventilate the garage and let the battery cool and de-gas before you move it or check the level

Do you have an electrical panel outside the house? Could you call someone to throw the garage cb? your local fire department might be of some help.

good luck

Also any friends or a neighbor who could stop by for you and check on it?

Since I'm away from home, can't get model number. Hopefully the litigious country we live in would force a company to failsafe the unit.

Thanks, RB

Obviously you can't get the number but you can look online at the store's website to see if they still offer it and what its specs are. If I was afraid my house was going to burn down I would be doing as much as possible to figure it out. Unless it is some old model or something but we can only guess

if it was a monster charger then you would have known you were setting it to fast charge - like 20 - 50 amps. That is the only setting I would worry about.

If it is the regular 2 amp charger then it will trickle down as the battery charges. If you are that worried call a neighbor about 6pm today and have them throw the power breaker on the house which will turn everything off. Only do that if the pipes in the house won't freeze. The refridge stuff should stay frozen for at least 24 to 48 hours and you will be home by then to flip the power back on.

Called the store where I bought it. They say it has a trickle down feature. So False Alarm. Jeez - What next? Must be a case of CRS.
