Thanks for all kind words...

Continued today with cutting and fitting the long side panel. It really starts to feel like a van again. Not just a body with the chassis on the side 8)

Holy crap... that one is missing bits here and there. But its just a matter of remembering that it is just metal... everything cn be fixed :-)

Ha ha! Thanks Oeysten!
Yes we do have alot of barndoors in Sweden. Probably still some to be found in the Swedish woods. I will try to convince the mob to put their projects here. None of them have a build tread in fact. Is´nt that a shame...?

Also we should not start to count the number of split beetles among this group. That would be a bit too much for ya all 8)

Well now there is a bunch of opportunities on places to fix on the barndoor. Started of today with looking into recreating the B-pillars but I realized that they are a bit complicated so I better save time and buy them.

Instead I ended up in the rear just to realize its kind of a complicated issue here too. There are a bunch of panels that need to line up and fit. The funky green will need some adjustments and I need a good engine hatch to measure on. Hopefully I can borrow one from a colleague.

you need to borrow his frame jig. good to see it is not being scrapped. \:D/

Its really fun to be in the garage now... Now its a matter of getting all the panels to fit. This weekend I manufactured the supports for the rear valance and after mounting it in its position I could start with the triangular support with spacer and so on. Its almost like a jiggsaw puzzle :D

I dont have any exciting pictures to post this week but work continues. Still working at the rear trying to finish the engine compartment. The worst bits are done here so thats comforting. Also ordered a bunch of the funky green from Musclebus.

Got some time to be in the garage this weekend which meant that I could get close to finished with the right side of the engine compartment. There was alot of minor adjustments and there is a depency between the panels and the rear valance that needs to line up but hey, now everything is welded shut.

nize Wed Mar 03, 2010 1:53 pm

Have been alot in the garage the past time... I have more or less finished the right side of the engine compartment. Now I concentrate on getting the left side up to shape.

Today I fitted, doubble cut and spotwelded the left rear corner in place. It is a very good method to first fit the whole corner outside on top of the original corner and then cut through the doubble layers of metal.

I also thought I would post some pictures of my good friend Gustafs barndoor. It is a 1954 RHD undergoing a similar resto like mine. I like the patina!!!

It is going to get a sun roof...

It needs good handling and not be to noisy... but who knows. Maybe it will talk to me :P

Excellent work Nize.

I vote stock BD look with non-stock running components.

Not a early, but you get the idea...

Well no I dont think that I will cut that much in the barndoor body... But it will definitely run as stock with og paint and logos but a bit lowered and with a somewhat bigger engine.

By the way... that DC really reminds me of my friends DC with a V8 that is so close to done that it is silly to not finish it but he never does... AAARGH! 8)

LJay Tue Mar 09, 2010 6:05 pm
