I have a question for the original poster.
With that water cooled timing belt, do you have any problems with dirt and mud getting into the belt and making the belt jump time.
I live in the northern USA where we get a lot of drifting snow in the winter, and we have had that problem with overhead cam VW engines.
I also have a pieces of farm machinery that I service, that has that transmission and engine set up in it. But just a 1.6L engine. It is a high wheeled crop sprayer.

what kind of rear tire is that?

I want one of those baja kits from the first page of this thread!

Did anyone else notice the yellow Baja rolled on the side, the rear window looked like it was a hatch back or something?

Bad me. Went back and read all the posts, first time around I just looked at all the neat pictures.

I am the only one who buys Playboy for the pictures you know.

Nice cars.

Whats up with the double cv joint on the outer?

BugMan114 Fri Jan 01, 2010 6:40 pm

thats what i've been wondering about. that set-up looks sick

Some of those baja fiberglass kits are awesome. I have never seen some of them before.
I like your build. Keep the pics coming.

you need to think (&build) outside the box. I'm running 5x112 VW/Audi on the back of my baja.
Home built: Yes
still on my initial prototype, Vanagon bearing carriers, audi Disc brakes and vanagon axles, thing CVs.
I have to get blank rotors for fronts to match. thing front spindles mod'd (weld'd) for Disc caliper mounts.

as for their Double CVs on the outward side, I'd suspect it's just for the spacer effect, to work with too short of an axle length. I'd suspect that the CV bolts will be a weak link, that is after the cage breaks from the angle stresses.

you have small bolt pattern 5 lug rims. We get large 5 X 205 mm bolt patterns or 4 X 130. We can't use wheels made for other cars.

If those hubs you use are standard VW, and the bolt pattern fits some other car, we could get some variety going in in the wheel department.

what is the bolt pattern, and are those hubs and stubs standard vw parts?

Nice car, you can get Chevy 5 lug rotors here http://www.mooreparts.com/store/category/7/146/Brake-Drums--Brake-Rotors/
I've seen places that sell several different bolt patterns on their rotors.

Too bad the original poster hasn't logged in since October 31. I'd love to see more of those bajas. Has anyone found those baja kits in the states?
