My new (new to me) single cab. Going to go cut it out of the weeds and drag it home this weekend. Was told its a 58, but it looks later than that to me cause of the bumper bracket holes. Havent seen the bus in person yet, just the photos my buddy got me, so no vin or m-coes, yet...
Its going to be a good winter, grandpa's old wood stove installed in the garage, and enough rust to keep me busy.

| Was wondering when stuff from the Northwest Ve Dubs estate would surface on here. Some great deals were had. That truck had some pretty decent side gates. Good project. Have fun with it |

Yea, its beat up around the edges, its beat up just about everywhere, but if I sit back and contemplate all the bad things that have happened "previously" to these rigs, I'd be sitting for a while.
Plus, someones gotta love the beaters! |

Thanks, the single cab jones-ing can now subside.
What makes you guess those years? What features? |

You can't see it, but it is a shifter-back truck. Late '59-early '60. |

Tailights are too low for a 58. |

is it just me or does the e-brake handle look like it's in the 59-down spot
maybe it's one of the last straight shifter buses |

Unfortunately my camera batteries were done. The late Steve Vail operated Northwest Ve Dubs up on the 539 guide meridian North of Bellingham for 30 + years. There had to be at least 50 air cooled VW's up for no reserve auction. Amazing deals all day long. Sections of shop tools/parts etc.. auctioned off. My friend got a section which included among many things a porta lign bore tool for $100. We grabbed a sandrail & trailer (cheap). Decent Ghias could be had for $350. A few split busses including the truck above sold. It was a huge inventory of stuff. Even an old 50's school bus that went for $25  Kicking myself for not buying more vehicles. |

I like your attitude buddy 8)
Looks like a straight shifter SC to me too. It could have been built anywhere from sept 58 onwards, but it's at least a 59 model year.
Can't be 61 because of the seat mounts - I'm going to guess November 58.
A cool truck to keep you out of trouble over the winter. |

ah yes it does look 59 or 60. Im going to guess early 60 as the tail light holes are slotted for the screws, not little holes. All the 58's and 59's ive seen have little holes for the mounting screws.

I still have the remnents of an old nw vee dub sticker on my 62 camper, got that sticker back in high school. my dad was over there visiting some family and happened to drive by 2 weeks ago and saw some commotion there and stopped to check it out, I haven't heard him that excited in a while.
Thanks for the clue in on the year, will know for sure this weekend. Might as well make it a game! Guess the right year and month and I will send you an original piece of rust from the sc!
I can get that door to work, get out the trusty torch and welder and I could make it fit a chevette! |

Very, very cool truck! It's a smack dab dead ringer for my '59 single cab "Old Blue". Now that you know mine is named Old Blue, you'll have to name your's something else  Old Blue and I were looking at the truck and between us, with that single sided treasure box just like his, we came up with: 22 03 9. Also, after a half hour of deliberation between us, debating the longest odds, we agreed that it MIGHT be the same most rare and coveted color Old Blue is: PGSG  We won't know for sure until you post those data plate numbers, but that's our guess and we're sticking to it! We'll be watching this thread closely. |

kombisutra - 22 03 9
I thought about it vwboop, and at first I DID WANT THOSE NUMBERS!. But the more I thought about it I want to go there and see them myself, dont want to take any mystery away just yet (got a 7hr drive just to get there, a little extra mystery-motivation always makes it quicker), but thank you for the offer. Plus gotta let some people get there guess in.
But, if you see anyone trying to take anything :2gunfire: (not that there's much there) I will reimburse you for the ammo. |
