I pulled the shift rod today and it looks bent about 4" back from the coupling. Is this bend supposed to be here? if not should i bend it back? It looks like it has been bent for some time. You can see were the rod was wearing on the tube. how would it get bent?

Yep, that's bent. Could be from letting the trans drop during an engine pull, or an accident where the driveline got hit and pushed, or a jacking mishap at the tire store.
Bend it back straight. |

or a mickey mouse way of trying to remove freeplay.
Find a donor and do it right. Be sure to match years. |

| Just take it to a fab shop and have them heat and straighten it.. |
