There is no such thing as wasted education. Go for it !!! The chance may not be available later.

Vaendegyn Mon Jan 11, 2010 11:20 pm

Hey bro, nice town!! :D

You going to the SRJC?

Least you have your bug already

Nice build :) When I get my baja we should go bomb around up north together.

thesatelliteguy Tue Jan 12, 2010 12:12 pm

well you guys thanks for the good words about education. I have often been told by an old co-worker of mine that "There's gonna be plenty of time for that when you get older" reffering to tinkering with my cars. I guess i just got to suck it up and forget about the cars for a while. Thanks for your words of advice.

Vaendgyn,
Let me know when you get a baja going. I have a few baja parts for sale if you want them. We should go up to Cow Mt. some time and invite some of the other local Baja-ers. I want to see that camp ground filled with baja's  But i'll probably have to wait until spring break.

BajaBoy7 Tue Jan 12, 2010 12:30 pm

I wanna go tooo! But first I need to fix my tranny.

thesatelliteguy Tue Jan 12, 2010 12:43 pm

Well if any of you guys local to Northern California know any one else that would want to tag along have them drop me a note either IM or on my build page. That way i will know who to contact about doing a trip up into the mountians, or even local. I know of a few small spots around Sonoma county. I tried to get a group of baja's together to go to Cow Mt. a few months ago, but no one seemed interested. I really want to go up to the desert around Reno. I go out there with some friends every summer and we have a really fun time shooting guns and blowing up propane tanks  some baja's out there would be fun.

Might be interested as long as I got the time off(need advance notice if it's more than just sat/sun), and the Thing is ready...

If you head over Nevada way check out the Johnson Ranch area out of Minden, below Carson City. I have been out there several times with bikes and quads, miles and miles of fun runnin'. If you get a trip together for cow by all means let me know. Been to Middle Creek/Penny Pines in Lake County, and also to Hollister. Tried a trip to Cow but it was closed due to heavy run-off.

just wondering if you were done with your baja, I enjoyed following your thread.

I tell my friends who ask this same question "HAHAHA I WILL NEVER BE DONE, NOT UNTIL I HAVE A V6 AND COILOVERS ALL THE WAY AROUND"

But im done for now. I have a few odds and ends i need to finish up. But school started so the project slowed down a lot. Im trying to save up for a disk break kit in the back, but its kind of hard when you dont have a job. Thats another reason its slowed down.

Hey Chubbs, do you still have that rubber matt? i have been looking around for some but all i can find it some thin stuff, about 1/4" thick and has large grooves cut into it. I want something like 1/2 inch. Like a truck bed matt.

chubby53 Wed Jan 27, 2010 8:48 pm

the mat that i have is maybe 1/16 to 1/8 inch thick. it works great though, but it's only about 2' wide. if it will work, we can figure out shipping and it's yours. let me know. I feel ya bout the job thing. at least your in school, good for you. i gotta wait til the economy gets better and construction pics up. last time i called around to the local electrical shops, one of the owners just laughed when i asked if they are needing any help. not a good sign.

BajaBoy7 Thu Jan 28, 2010 11:52 am

Thanks man, i'll check that place out.

Garner Thu Jan 28, 2010 9:12 pm

I'm jumping in late on the education issue, but you won't regret it, and, after settling into a routine, you should still be able to find time for your hobby. Then it will also work as an effective stress-relieving tool. I really learned to fabricate while I was in law school, to the point where I have done it professionally and find myself moonlighting at my buddy's off-road shop building $60K rock racers. College class loads are where you can really learn to budget your time and maximize your output. And, when you come back to it later, it should be with better perspective and more maturity.

thesatelliteguy Fri Jan 29, 2010 1:01 pm

Thanks Garner, I have noticed in the last few weeks that peoples encouragement reguarding school have really influenced me to go kick some ass and get some education. I just keep telling my self that "there will be plenty of time for that (cars) when im a cardio surgeon". Ok i guess there really wont be time for building hot rods and stuff if im a cardio surgeon, but i'll just hire my friends to build me a rail, that was i can spread the wealth.

And i have noticed that even though im doing 13 units, i still find time for my hobbies, just not as much time.

harleymiller Mon Feb 01, 2010 5:59 pm

where did you get the lower section of that bumper?

thesatelliteguy Mon Feb 01, 2010 6:08 pm

I assume you are talking about the rear bumper. It use to be a tube bumper that attached to the upper shock mounts and frame horns. I hade two of the same bumper. One of the bumpers broke one of the braces that goes down to the frame horns when a friend was pulling me out of a pond, so i chopped that one apart and welded its bits and pices onto the other bumper. On the new bumper, i cut off the shock mount braces, which i regret because that would om made it that more strong. Ohh well.

Wait, i do have another one of thoses bumpers laying around........

Sat-Guy, I went back to school in my 40's at night while working full time with two kids still at home. It may sound hard to believe, but even with 12 to 15 units and work and homelife, I still spent most weekends on a dirtbike with my son and friends. As mentioned before you can find the time and discipline to get it to work! Best of luck, I never regretted my decision for a minute.

thesatelliteguy Tue Feb 02, 2010 12:12 pm

Wow, thats tough right there. i dont know how you could do that. Im curious to know what classes you where taking.

ZARJDR Tue Feb 02, 2010 11:24 pm

Pre-Law, contracts, real estate, torts/liability, legal research and writing, legal office procedures, etc. etc. I hold a certificate in legal assistancy/paralegal. The day cometh when my spine and legs aren't going to hold up, and wanted a fall back plan.

thesatelliteguy Wed Feb 03, 2010 1:21 am

Yeha ZARJDR, at 22 I hear you on back failing out and knees.
