Well im going to go look at some free goodies today at my friends dad's house. My friend calls me up and says his dad's got a one piece front he want to give me. SCORE!! What comes around goes around!!! I guess it's my turn! So although i already have a one piece front, id kind of like another. i have been wanting to chop some of the front off so i could fit a big boner bar in the front like 57Baja or Busk has. To be more specific (and i hope Busk and 57Baja dont mind me doing this) I kind of want to mix the front bumpers those two have. I really like the bumper/light rack that Busk has, but i like the triangle skid plate 57Baja has. So i might mix the two, but that will be some day. I got to get a link pin installed and extend the cage to the beam before i can go building a front bumper. So this new front piece might be the one to get chopped up...or it will be something to practice painting on.

And 57Baja's...Baja

Well i checked out this freebie and its not that bad. It looks like the nose piece broke off in a nice line right under the headlights, and then some one fiberglassed it back together. It is a LOT thinner then the one i have already, and i was supprised at how light it was. So i think i will try to get it home this weekend. As for the re-fiberglass stuff, i think it will be cut out any way. i was thinking of a straight line across, about half way through the headlight openings.

Busk's Baja (and one of my favorite pics on TheSamba)

that is one cool pic. nothing says bad ass like a baja with that kind of articulation.
I know what you mean about thickness on the front ends, my first one( the one i have to repair) is alot thicker and heavier than my other. and that's with the bottom half of one of the fenders missing.

Well this is a little off subject of Baja bugs, but im really excited and, guns and bajas kind of go hand in hand....kind of.

I brought home my first rifle today. I bought a 1944 M91/30 Mosin Nagant! For those that dont know about these guns, they're the ones that Big 5 sells for $180 but put them on sale for $80 sometimes. It shoots a round that is between a .300 savage and a .30-06. (i found out the correct caliber size is .311). I have shot these guns before and they kick HARD. My shoulder hurts just thinking about it. I cant wait to shoot it.
It came with a bayonet, a sling, 4 Soviet era ammo pouches, an old oil/solvent canister and a tool kit. All this for $145.82 out the door with a $10 trigger lock. I cant wait to blow up some watermelons and propane tanks.
I think part of the reason i bought it over a 10/.22 was because it is vintage. Sure, rounds are more expensive, but it's probably killed people before (which i hope it will never again)
I'll post pics later.
Peace

Sounds like an old fashioned good time to me, a buddy bought one of those Mosin-Nagants last year, and was really pleased with it. He paid a little more, but his was uncirculated after reconditioning, and in very very nice shape.

thesatelliteguy Mon Mar 22, 2010 11:24 pm

So far im pleased with mine. Even if it dosent shoot straight it looks good on my wall, especially with the bayonet attached.

Sorry some of the pics are sideways. I can never remember how to rotate them and save them rotated.

Nice mosin !!!! and yes guns and baja's go together like peas and carrots and if your out and about in the desert around my area ya better be packin some kind of heat (lots of illegal traffic)

merc Tue Mar 23, 2010 5:17 am

the round is 7.62x54R. They don't kick that bad. I have a 1943 91/30 from the Ishkavek (SP?) factory. Fun gun to play with! If you buy any mil-surplus ammo (like from AimSurplus.com) make sure to clean the gun real well afterwards. The original powder for these was corrosive. You don't want to leave it uncleaned for long periods of time.

riNR Tue Mar 23, 2010 11:28 am

LOL! That's right, no guns unless you're a criminal. Jealous? No! Tell you what we do have though; public health care, and the mandate was not written by HMOs and jambed down the publics throat by a president who has spent more money in his short term than all the presidents before him combined. The puppet is doing his job oh so well. All those celebrities sure told you guys how to vote.
Don't get me wrong, love the country you live in, and I'd move to Oregon in a heart beat. Just couldn't resist the whole stereotypical gun talk thingy, and no I don't live in an igloo, or know Jim in Toronto, and it was over 60'F last week for most of the week. Oh ya, and sometimes I say " eh "

thesatelliteguy Tue Mar 23, 2010 11:55 am

I dont blame you for hackin on the americans for their gun tottin ways. I dont know about all that political stuff though...like i really dont know any thing about it.

ZARJDR Tue Mar 23, 2010 5:49 pm

Damn riNR you got more knowledge of what's goin down than 99% of the people I know, and I too would move to Oregon in a heartbeat!!!!

rubsterob Tue Mar 23, 2010 6:29 pm

and i think zarjdr is right Quote: Damn riNR you got more knowledge of what's goin down than 99% of the people I know
