So they really dont let civilians own guns in Canada? Wow i didnt know that. riNE, you got a well educated head on your shoulders, or you pay attention to the US a lot.
Any way, i got some jackmann wide 5's coming on friday. I got 3 of them for $50. The 5 i have right now are all 9 inches wide, which is too wide for some 700x15 tires for the front. I'll probably just store them until i have the money saved up for some tires, and i'll have to widen my beam so i dont keep ripping headlights off. |

We can own guns for hunting and sport but they must be registered and no one gets a permit to carry a concealed weapon, only law enforcement. And then there's the criminal element, laws don't apply, and they carry regardless.
Yup, Hood River, Oregon, no arm twisting required.....and Shop Teacher lives just to the east that I could go help his class out. |

Yeah i have never understood the concealed weapon idea. That just seems like your going to shoot someone. Maybe for doubble 0 agents its ok.
rubsterob, thanks for the complements on the pic. I love that picture. The fog in the background makes it. :D |

Well i got some new goodies for the baja today!!
An alternator kit!!! WOOT WOOT
I was having genny pully problems. The back half of the pulley was moving around on the shaft b/c the key and the key slot had gotten chewed up. The pulley could move about 1/4 of a turn with out turning the shaft, and it "clattered" really loud. So yesterday i welded the back half onto the genny with my friends MIG. I drove it home and it was fine. I havent driven it since, but when i saw Bosch alternator kit for $150 on craigs list, i couldnt resist. it took 4.5 hours of my time and 5 gallons of gas to get it, but i think it was worth it. The alternator is a AL82N internally regulated, made in Brazil (i think). I'll probably put it on the car on sunday since i dont have plans for easter.
Tell me your thoughts and what not about this, im curious to know. I know i might have to get a new fuel pump, but my mechanical pump dosent work, its only there to keep downward pressure on.....well what ever the hell is down there. i was told not to remove it.(cam gear i think) |

| Ohh and an update on my Mosin Nagant. I shot the shit out of it last saturday. 140 rounds in about 3.5 hours. It was pretty accurate. Im not that great of a shot with it, but my friend who is experianced with mosins was hitting a target at 400 yards with only iron sights. Nice shooting Asa. |

| Yeah they're a pretty cool gun, it just hurts to shoot it so much. But i have a butt pad coming so that might make a difference. |

yea they hurt some certainly. I can pop a beer bottle at 100 yards, iron sights only. their worth every penny.
What ammo are you firing? dont waste your time with anything brass casing. Go to the gun shows you can get 440 rnds for 80 bucks. lead or steel core with copper wash steel casings |

Thats what im using. 880 surplus rounds made in in Bosnia in 82' for $200 shipped to my door. I will buy the good stuff one day when i know how to shoot really well and i want to go hunting with it, but until then i enjoy paying less then 25 cents a round. I usually walk around the range and ask people if they want to shoot it. You make nice friends that way and grow the popularity of the gun too. People are always amazed that i payed $90 for it. I see mosins as kind of the Vw bug of guns. Theres a shit load of them around in all kinds of conditions and they are a dime a dozen. But you also have the really nice, all original ones that are worth a pretty penny.
I already want another one, a carbine i think.
Have you ever seen one of these: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www....tAOsieG0BA |

| Oregon also has no sales tax, when a taco is 99 cents you get a penny back. No smogs laws and plenty of sand dunes. love the rifle, you should make a mount to attach it to your baja. |

| A mount for it is on my list, but its kind of long for the inside of the car. The gun is wider then the car actually. Maybe a mount like cops have with the gun pointing straight up, but in front of the shifter, or next to it. |

I i got some time to work on the baja yesterday. i was screwing around with the brakes, but i noticed that the rear side of my motor is leaking oil. It seems like it is coming from behind the crank pulley. Since i just got a new alternator kit i figured i should get a new pulley too.
So im wondering, which pulley should i get. I dont think i want an under drive pulley, but if you can persuade me, go for it.
i was thinking about this one:
http://www.chircoestore.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=109_115_289&products_id=2059
But im not sure if i need the heavier one for better balance.
So should i just get a cheaper one like this:
http://www.chircoestore.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=109_115_289&products_id=3153
And i assume i want a sand seal, but do i really need it? Will a stock seal work fine? |

Glad to see your back to work.
I'd get a second opinion, but I'm pretty sure that the "sand seal" goes into a journal that is machined into the block. I don't think it is just a bolt on. |

I was kind of coming to realize that. I have seen some that say "bolt on" so i might try that.
Any one else have an opinion on this matter? |

| I worked at a Big 5 here in Boise many years ago, I bought a M44 for $78 total. Oddly enough I too love Hood River also, but far to many summers in John Day have ruined living in Oregon for me for the time being. Ontario is only a 30 minute drive and they have a Wal Mart, and video poker in all the bars. Oregon is like Idaho's FWB. =D |

So an update on the sand seal. I was told by my VW guru friend that if you get the case machined for a sand seal, it makes it a lot harder and more expensive to line bore the case in the future. It would require some special equipment to bore it, and since i dont think i will be getting my Honda V6 in the car any time soon, i want to keep this case as long as i can.
I get paid this week so i might be pulling my motor to put a new crank pulley on, install a new crank seal, get the alternator bolted in and still have idling issues :P
Im excited to work on my car. It has been soooo long. |

Last night i got my motor pulled and set up on the work bench.
I want to do some freshening up. Here's my plan:
Remove exhaust
Pull the dizzy for a new seal
Make fuel pump block off plate and put on a new seal
Remove genny stand and replace with alt. stand
Remove cooling tin and patch up some of the holes in the dog house. Repaint the cooling tin. but i dont know what color yet
Clean block and cylinders of oil and road grime
Clean out oil sump
Replace oil cooler seal
Wire brush the header and repaint
Put new crankshaft pulley seal on.
My vw guru friend suggested that if the crank pulley seal was leaking, there is a good chance that my rings are blown out. Im curious if any one else knows about this? true, false? It makes sence to me. blown rings lead to lots of blow by which leads to a high crank case pressure. but i have a breather coming off the oil filler tube. So wouldnt that be enough crank case ventalation?
So i think if i have to put new rings on, why not clean up the heads some.
Im looking for some suggestion on what i can do to get a little more power out of my heads while they're off the motor. Any help is appreciated. |
