| I used flux core wire. Im barrowing my friends lincolin and i wish it was gas, but its all good. Later today i hope to clean up some more rust on the floor pan and coat it with rust preventer. Then take sand paper to the rest of the inteior to get the old carpet adhesive residue off, primer it black then prep for bed liner. Unfortanitly all this thanksgiving day stuff gets in the way. Im cold harted huh? |

Just got done rolling the bed liner on the dash and front half of bug #2. I only used a little less then half of the hippo liner i got so im sure i will have enough for the rest of the interior and maybe the "trunk" too. I still have to cut the front body metal off and clean up the rust thats in there. I really like the texture of the bed liner, it looks really cool on the dash. I cant wait to see how it holds up. Heres some pics.

I havent been able to post any pics lately because of the holiday and i have a huge english paper due today. But i found some time this morning to do a little work and to take some pictures. I got the rear half of the interior painted with bed liner. I had a lot more bed liner in my bucket then needed for the interior and didnt want to just wast it by throwing it out. (it was $100 for 9/10 of a gallon :( ) so i painted up the outside of the fire wall with out any prep. We'll see how that holds up. i also painted under the front hood. i did do a little prep there. I think im going to get some Duplicolor or Dupont bed liner and do the wheel wells and some toch up, but im not spending another $100 on Hippo liner, that was too much. Here's some pics.
Any way i got my gauges in. They look nice, but i want to say,IF ANY ONE WANTS TO TRADE THEIR GAUGES FOR ALL OR SOME OF MINE I AM OPEN FOR THAT
I dont really like the style of them. they look more like they should be in a classic bug of a 30's ford coupe.
I also got my doors yesterday as well as a few heater items and the door open switch ans seal. Im telin ya ima gona seal this thing up nicely. its gona be nice and toasty on the inside.
The doors need some attention to the window roller. I think the crank is sliding on the gear. or the gear is sliding on the pusher/puller cord. |

I got a few things done since my last post. Heres a short list
Swapped the rear brakes and drums for 5 lug.
Trim clip holes bondoed and painted.
Cut out a rust patch in the front driver side fender well. I wish i took a before pic.
Mounted one of the new fenders and one of the old fenders to see which one i like more. The old fenders won. Much wider, and fit better.
My friend has been wanting to learn how to do bondo for a while so he came by and i let him fix up the cancer patches under the rear window. He did good for it being his first time. I didnt even give him any tips really. Thanks Matt.
There not done yet though. We ran out of bondo.
Took care of some cancer holes in the cowl. I bondoed the holes then put down some bed liner. I also bed lined the front wheel wells, front "fire" wall and the frame head. I also got the master cylinder and the pedal cluster bolted in. Tomorrow i will bleed the breaks and get those working. I also took the brake baking plates off the lifted beam so i can clean and paint them.
I also got the lifted beam bolted in. the front sits about 1/2 inch higher then the rear, it dosent even have the motor in yet so it will probably drop another 1/2 inch. :( Ohh well, guess i'll just have to preload the rear and throw the urethane bushings in while im at it. |

hahaha I love multi-color cars. It's original.
How nice of a paint job are you doing? You dont want to just rattle can it? sand between coats and you'll have some good paint. |

Thanks to Samba member Russ_Wolfe I found out its a 1969. I was guessing it was a 69 because i kept finding "69" written all over different panels in the interior. I also took a wire wheel to the front fender wells and took all the factory rubberized coating off and found "69" written with a blue pen there too. Thats kind of odd that they'd mark the thing with what year it was. Makes me think that maybe in 1972 they decided, "Hey, lets make a 1969 today" "Good idea boss"
Im glad to know what year it is now. |

| mines just staying whatever colors the parts are for now, when i do get to paint i had planned on taking it all apart, body off and going to town on it. I want to do it inside out and do it right, I can deal with the eyesore for now until then. besides I've always thought they look a little meaner when they're multicolored and lifted with mud chunks falling off going down the road. what color you painting yours? |

| I got my brakes bleed and working today. They still feel a little iffy. But i trusted them to get me down my drive way and into the garage. (My driveway is really steep, idiots try to turn around in it all the time and get stuck). The front driver side seems to stick. Im not sure if i over adjusted the breaks before i bled them. Im going to go back and work on them some more now. Just had to eat dinner and blog about my car some. |

| if it's sticking you might have a collapsed line(flexible one). it's been somethinng that's happened to me before |

Yeah i had the same thing with the rear flexable lines. I dont think these are collapsed though because they where the ones on my 67 baja, i also adjusted the breaks again later last night and it seems like its doing better.
Any way, once i got the car down in the garage i put the 67's steering column in. I would like to use the 69's steering shaft because it has that colapsable column on it that folds up in the case of a head on colision. Has any one had one of those fail on you while driving hard. I would be affraid it would bent during heavy off road driving.
I also got my breaks re-bled and re-adjusted. The pedal still sinks to the floor. It can be pumped up and will hold pressure, but if you randomly apply the breaks it goes almost all the way to the floor. Im affraid i might have to re-bleed the master cylinder.
And i got my e brake working good, which was needed because i have to park the bug out on the street and the street is really steep. I still tied it to the phone poll though.

| i like the tow strap ebrake. it's "custom". as far as the steering column. my buddies and i have used those kind before and no problems. I would think you would break a wrist before that gave out just cause there is no side pressure or anything on it it just turns, imagine putting one end in a vice and the steering wheel on the other end and trying to twist it in two. If it bends by a frontward force you would want it to collapse like you were saying. |

| I was having the same bleeding problem, turns out i had a bad master which was 1 month old, got a free replacement and it was bad and the third one just happened to work, 20 hrs and 3 bottles of brake fluid i finally have a pedal |

That is ridiculous Nacho. Where did you get the master cylinder? How did you know it was bad, was it leaking to the out side of the cylinder?
Truth is im using the cylinder that came with the car so i really have no idea about its history. I have my old one out of old yeller and another one that i think works, both sitting in my garage. A friend came over last night and helped me bleed the breaks. we only did the front because it got really cold, but the front driver side had A LOT of air in it, we probably pumped up pressure and opened the valve 20 times. I wasnt sure if the air was coming from the rubber line i attached to the bleeder valve or from the system its self. But the breaks did seem to work a little better.
One thing i read about bleeding the front is that, because the wheel cylinders are sideways and the bleeder valve isnt on the top, you can get an air bubble stuck on the upper side of the wheel cylinder.
Today i think i will bleed the rears and see if that does any thing. If its still a little spongy i'll take the front drums off and remove the brake backing plates bolts and turn the plate so the cylinder is on top and the possible air bubble in there can come out of the valve.
I think i will also start the wiring. |

| again i would make sure the little rubber thingy that the brake resevoir line that feeds the master cylinder is good, other wise you could be sucking in air. and make sure your hose is good and tight on your bleeder valve, that will also cause probs. One thing you could do is take your front drums off(do one side at a time) unscrew the 13mm bolt that holds the wheel cylinder in place, and keep a hold on your pistons in the wheel cylinder with one hand always have constant pressure, then hold it so the bleeder valve is on top and bleed them that way. just make sure that your buddy doesn't push so hard that you can't keep them held together. hopefully something will work. no brakes on a bad hill sucks. If anything cut a giant hole in your pan and flinstone it. |
