I have looked on all of the VW parts sites that I know of and wolfsburg west says that the 68-79 spring is the same, but other sites say different. I believe that the spring is larger than most beetle ones, but is there a beetle one that will be the correct diameter? Airheadparts.net shows 60-75 are all the same. So I dont know what will fit. My spring is definately weak and needs to be replaced. Thanks, Chad

we bought from several different sources last fall/winter that were advertised to fit but they lied as they were all the smaller size. We gave up looking for one for our 1977 091 and used the old one. If you find a source let us know as we are looking too. The problem is that it is cheaper to not return it than pay the postage to get your money back so they keep selling them. If you find one ask them to measure the diameter of the coil before you buy it. Or find a trans that has died and get one off it.

I think the part number is 091-141-723 for 1976-79. That is the larger diameter one. I know we bought one from JBugs that they list as the right one but it didn't fit.
The one 1975 and prior is 113-141-723 and BusBoys has them I think. |

I got a spring for my Thing from Long Enterprises. I suspect most any tranny rebuilder could get you whichever spring you need.

Hi found this, I would call them and ask for the measurements and compare them to your old spring. At least it is the right part number.

Mine from J-bugs was the wrong size so I returned it. New ones were only available in cross-shaft kits from Rancho but they sold me a like new one for less than the price of a lunch. If you lack one buy one and a spare. If you have a good one just buy a spare.
