I read every page...you're right. There were like two people that actually provided a coherent reason as to why they prefer splits. Never knew there was such snobbery in the VW world. Sheesh.

Shhhhhh!
Don't tell anyone but some of my friends that are very seriously into splits, and early bugs have quietly confided their desire to have a Bay Window. Naturally, they can't openly say it because it is against all the silly rules.

I had a 64 SP with dual 500 CFM Webers and it ran strong even going uphill it would hold it speed at 60 MPH with out straining. I even got 20 MPH to the gallon. That was back in the mid 70's.

Better late than never but here it goes.

My T2 Bay is not allowed in OCTO with other T2s. Whats up with that? Where's Gloria Allread when needed.

Bays belong at the back of the bus...

We parked Polly's Bay in the parking lot and it usually had a bunch of people checking it out and looking it over. Kinda like a one bus show. No need to be inside the gate.

Hmmm...lets see

1) a heater that actually blows hot air

2) Fuel Injection

3) A/C was viable option

4) Safer in every posible way

and finally for my wife

5) Automatic Transmision......she cant drive a manual...LOL!

Splitties are visually cool and always will be, but they are not to be found for the price of a nice Bay!

Is there a similar attitude at these events with the Beetles & Ghias, or is this purely a split window dominance thing?

BTW, I dig my '65 singlecab & have to say I get more comments when driving it around town than with the '75 Westfalia... but the singlecab is such an oddity to most people I can understand why. It's a blast to drive around town and short trips on the highway (1600dp & stock trans/RGBs) & its 1 ton payload is uber handy, BUT when it comes down to taking a trip into the mountains/over to the coast/etc for some recreation I will take my baywindow any day. The newest baywindow is over 30 years old, though, which to me makes it plenty 'vintage' to be very cool.

i can care less of pos splits

I love OCTO...the number of Bay parts in the swap area is astounding.
..and I always check out the bays in the parking lot...

IBTL!

Yes there is. A lot of people who own/like pre-68 Bugs look down on anything later, especially Super Beetles.
I hate that attitude, they all have their place. Early bugs are awesome, but so are German Look Super Beetles.

Desertbusman Wed Jun 09, 2010 5:43 pm

To make it all simple to understand it's the fat chicks that are looked down on by the mainline ACVW crowd. Fat chick bugs, busses, and the rest. '68 is the cutoff year.

Well since I posted that I found a great 66 Split. I love it, but I am far from becoming a Split elitist. The Bay just has a certain character, kind of like that dog that's been your best friend throughout your childhood.

The Split is great, don't get me wrong, but IMO bay's have just as much right to the heir.
