Go where? It seems that your M plate is missing, unless it's on the bulkhead behind the LH front seat (not common for a 79).
Without that plate the only way to discover how your bus was originally equipped is getting it's birth certificate from VW and that still won't tell you anything about the camper conversion, only that it was delivered to the dealer as a panelvan.

behind the driver's seat is a plaque but not the one I seek, in terms of conversion Devi this seems to be made before delivery to its new owner since the documentation I have is so, I'll put a photo of it to see if we can find out more

the picture you've posted is an english V5 registration document and has nothing to do with the VW factory or the original camping layout.

the chassis no. starts 219 which makes it a 1979 panelvan and from the date it looks like you've had this bus for 4.5 years.
