o.k. i have scoped out a host hotel. this one has lots of parking, lots of restaurants, a mall, a hooters, denny's, home depot, you name it all in walking distance. it is also 1/4 of a mile from the friday night cruise in location. the hotel is nice, not 5 star nice, but good enough. free breakfast buffet, free wireless, free open bar on that friday, and an indoor and outdoor pool. it is 66.00 plus tax per night. it is a ramada. this one is about 60 miles from the race track.
to book call the number below and mention Drag Race Special.
if you are not coming down for the friday night cruise in concert tomfoolery then you might want to stay close to the track. i am going there on march 6 to investigate for that. here is the email from the Ramada Inn:

| i was bouncing an idea around for the CAR SHOW portion of the event. since it is kind of an informal show, should i not have classes and instead give out the top 30 show car plaques? any good/bad reasons to do/not do it that way? |

is it just 6 weeks away? crap if it isn't! i just made a run up to the track to lay things out and talk it over with the management. they are a class group. i think that they are as excited as i am. they are doing a lot of their own promoting which is great. we can load in trailers and other stuff friday around 4. you can camp there friday night if you choose. as far as i know there is not an event there that night. we have tons of room on the pit side for everyone. we are going to put the show car section on the same side as the race cars. it took me about 50-60 minutes to get to the track from the cruise in host hotel. and i stopped at mcdonalds. it is almost all 4 lane to the track. i will provide maps to the track on friday night and they can be downloaded from the site soon. the track itself is one of the nicest that i have ever raced on. i think everyone will appreciate what a great spot this is. i talked with the track manager/tech inspector and we are going to open the track for open time trials around 3. we will keep this going for a couple of hours. at 5 ish we will start the time runs and the bracket classes and 6.90 class will get 2 runs. the pro stock/pro mod guys need 3 so we will start with them at 5, let the brackets classes go after, pro stock/pro mod again at 6, bracket classes for their 2nd and final time run, and then the pro stock/pro mod again at 7. then shortly after that we can start the eliminations. it should work out that most of the racing will be at night. my question that i want to throw out to all the guys that are going to run 6.90 and super pro is this: when should we run the 6.90 event? last year we did it early so they guys had plenty of time to cool and be ready for the super pro race. can we run the 6.90 race during the open time trails/time runs from 3-7?
also, we are still having a hot dog cook out at the end of the event for anyone that is staying around afterward. that was one of my favorite parts last year. and speaking of food, the concession stand at the track is awesome. the track manager bragged about their no frozen burger policy. they are all freshly made. and of course they have a ton of other goodies.
i am really hoping for a great turnout so we can make the payouts increase. tell everybody you know to come! i am going to have a lot of giveaways for the kids and wives that are there. we did some last year and it was well received so i want to go over the top with it this year. if anyone has any ideas about that let me know.
i'll stop for now as it looks like too much to read so far! one last thing though. i have heard that some of the biggest racers in the country are coming this year. if that happens to be true we are in for a treat.
more info to come!

| We are getting really close! Here are few things that I have been discussing with the track. Campers/trailers/vendors can load in Friday after 4 PM. Vendor spots are FREE! Used, new, swap, whatever as long as it isn't food! Dyno Don Chamberlin has been confirmed and will be here for both the cruise in and the race. We hope that he is ready for the heat of South Carolina! (And the corn derived beverages from Kentucky.) Also, for those staying the week after, there will be one last get together on Friday July 23rd at the Charleston Harbor and Resort Marina for a beach/band party from 6-9 PM. Who would guess that PlaneJane will be playing? Show t-shirts are almost ready. I'll have lots of sizes and a few different colors this year. And girlie tees too! I have heard of quite a few different race cars that will be here. Let's hope they come! I'll confirm their participation when they pull in the gate! |
