I am going to be towing a '74 super home on a two wheel car dolly. The car has no tranny in it and no axles. I was just wondering if it's ok to tow it with the rear wheels on the ground? Will anything come apart because the axles are not attached?

It'll be just fine.

Ok good to know. Also Will I need to lock the steering wheel? The car dolly has a turning table.

Dont you need the axles on to keep the rear tires on ?

Not on a IRS car. You dont have to tie the steering wheel

In a late model, the drive-shafts only connect the transmission to the stub axles. The wheels sit on the stub axles (which are part of the suspension and independent of the drive-shafts). The stub axles are supported by the bearings and the suspension. The car will roll just fine without driveshafts or transmission, although it will be VERY light in the back.

Make sure the drums and wheels are torqued down. If the car's that far apart, they may have just slapped it all together to roll it around the yard.

That's a smart idea! Loose axle nut could be a disaster. Check the lug bolts too.

I got it home fine today. I put my own tires/wheels on it so we made sure they were tightened good. I never did check the drum but they had a pin thru the nut so atleast it could'nt come off. Thanks for the help

Hah, a very good suggestion. I've been there done that. Being passed by your own wheel is only funny after you spend a few hours picking it back up and putting it back on the car.

I had to chase my bugs wheel through an intersection once with the three wheeled bug towing behind me. It was rolling towards a store with a big, expensive plate glass window. I caught up, and knocked it down with my bumper. I never felt so stupid

When I brought my 68 home, the left hand lug nut was literally about to fall off.

The right side was finger tight.
