I just got a 9 seater automatic
Original 1800 with 1 year only, fi system
This fi system uses 012 afm, has 2 vacuum lines on disy (had a pic of part#)
& has 4 outlets on charcoal canister (2 on each side)
The throttle body has no microswitch, but does have 2 vacuum lines
coming out of it instead of 1 like on the 76-78
I need help with the vacuum lines for this fi system
I just bought the bus & I was able to get it started after bringing her home
& got brave enough to drive it around the block (has not been registered since 1997)
I then took hundreds of pics off everything as I took everything apart
For cleaning, inspection, & replacement of fuel/vacuum lines
Well on weds some crack head broke into the bus & stole my vw tool box & camera
Now I can’t figure out how the vacuum lines go
I looked threw ratwell's website & could only find a drawing for the 75manual
Some of this fi system is 75only & automatic only
& the parts don’t show up on the drawing ratwell has
I need help with all the 1/8 vacuum lines
I would also like more info on the decel valve on this system
Since it’s not the same as a manual or 76-79 auto |

thanks for the diagram
some of those parts are just not adding up to me
it shows both the advance & retard going directly to throttle body
with no other lines connecting ??? is this right
i remember having a few lines connecting to these
also the fuel regulator & charcoal cannister are not on there
but now i know what that thing is under the intake manifold=temp valve
i just kind of guessed at how lines go & the bus
starts, but dies just as fast
the fuel pressure is at 38
is the high pressure a cause from lines not connected right
or is this a seperate problem that needs to be addressed
so anydody have a 75fi automatic that can share a few pics

| If it starts, then dies, it could be something simple as a loose or disconnected hose.....primarily the one on the drivers side near the CSV.....if its off or even loose, you will get that exact symptom.....check them all really well......just a thought |

does anybody have the original 75 fi on their automatic ???
this drwing conradicts what is on the fi manual on the other thread

This topic has been posted before, I don't know if anyone ever really figured it out totally.

By removing a plugging every vacuum line you should be able to get it to run. Then add the lines back one by one to see which one might be killing your engine. |

ill start by saying i intend to figure this out & document with pics to
ratwell & karl's standards
in the mean time i will start gathering all info here
& hopefully have correct details for a 75fi auto when im done
i knew this fi was rare, but i never realizied just how exotic it was
to think some crack head is pawning my camera right now
with all the pics of correct vacuum lines in detail :evil:

Am I way off? Here is the vacuum line kit I got from German Supply. I know I still need a few bits and pieces to finish it

this picture does not have the
egr,temp valve or automatic idle valve (i think that is what is called)
also missing is the charcoal canister
the air cleaner on mine does not have the 1/8th inch vacuum outlet
the one in pic appears to be from a 77-79-can someone confirm??
4. does go to the trans but it has a T in it & also connects to plenum
(my plenum has another outlet between the intakes to connrct to the T)
this was reconnected before theft so i will confirm as correct
5. was also capped off on mine, why???
6- vacuum advance on distributor with T to 10,
i have no #10 & i had no T for this area so im pretty sure that 6 to 10 is direct with no T's, but will not confirm yet

I got my bus up and running using a combination of parts and lots of help from the guys here. Especially 1975 Kombi and Scott at German Supply.
Mine is not stock 75. Like I said I used parts from different years to get it to work. I am in the middle of a move AND my engine is out of the bus right now, but when I get home this weekend I will try to fill you in on where the parts go on my engine.
