I will be taking the body off the frame of my Super in the coming months. What is one looking for when they critique the health of the heater channels?

Is there a way to check for rust before you have the body off of the car?

You can kind of. when i did mine a good indicator was when i turned the bolts eveything on the other end turned with them :( . you should be able to see from under neath unless your florr is perfect, in that case pull the back seat up and che in the corners.

Also, does the body offer enough support for itself when removing it from the frame? The body guy I talked to suggested I do a cross support and front to back support when I remove the body. I have never seen anyone do that when removing the body.

If you are cutting out the heater channels, I completely agree with that, but just removing the body?

The heater channels, if in good shape, will have no problem supporting the body. Just get 4 friends, one on each corner and lift it off. Good luck

If you're worried about the condition of the heater channels, there's no harm in bracing the body before lifting it (apart from a few screw holes) - better to brace it and find out you didn't need to than not brace it and find out you should have.

My experience with lifting bodies include an overhead crane, with a 3in. towstrap through the doors and attached to a chain hoist. Had no problems whatsoever with the body needing bracing. The heater channels were pretty crusty there, so.... Just lift it, roll the chassis out from under, and drop it on a cart. Pretty easy . Bentley's even gives the step-by-step.

I agree.
