I have westy with all sorts of prob I allso have a transpoter that is real solid was thinking of converting it be camper useing the pop top from the westy. I think I am going to drill out the factory wellds by the guters and transfer the hole thing. or should I cut the hole in the top of the transporter what do you think

I met a guy at a show here that did that.

he took it apart at the gutters. said it was the best move, as it was easy to hide the welding - looked factory when finished.

obviously cutting a hole would be easier but uglier.

Post pics if you do it, I'd like to see how that comes apart! (i have an old westy here as well and have been contemplating swapping the lid someday to go sunroof....someday....maybe....

If you need the space (pop-top) it can be done, albeit for some $$ coin. I agree cutting the top at the gutter level would make for the cleanest welding job. The cutting roof openings route may not work, as there is more than just cutting a hole involved with retrofitting a pop-top (braces, etc.). It may be easier to go the weekender route as I have done, see my image bank.... :?:
