| what are the purpose of bugs having running boards? u dont need them to get in/out and u cant stand on them why are they there? |

You can stand on them, at least you can mine. And they're only held on by the two bolts holding them to the fenders. But I guess the car looks much better with them, it helps to flow the lines between the fenders better. And all cars of the time the Beetle was designed had running boards, so I guess it was a sort of style thing as well. |

| mostly for looks. when they are off i makes the body look more narrow to me. the one plus is it gives you somewhere to prop your leg when you just sitting around ha |

beetles look stupid without them
and the sides get covered in dirt and stonechips thrown up by the tyres

rusty, they also have 4 bolts along the heaterchannels as well
if ur bugs had rust repairs along there as many have they may have been bogged or welded over |

| Seeing that bugs were designed in the 30's - pretty much all cars had then until the 40's - VW kept them |

Not sure if you are talking about just your car or all bugs but they are supposed to be held on by a bunch of bolts into the body as well. If they are only held on with the 2 fender bolts I wouldn't stand on them. |
