View original topic: Steering Box Screw Stripped

What are my choices for repairing a stripped screw on my 71 Super. It is the steering box screw on the upper right in the truck. My mechanic told me that it was loose, and so I went to tighten it, but it was not loose, and I stripped it. I seem to have a lot of play in the steering wheel now. Any suggestions? Do I need to replace the entire box? How do you recommend that I go about it? Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Are talking about the slotted screw with a nut at the base for adjusting steering, in the center of the case cover? Or one of the bolts that hold the cover on?

I am talking about the screw to adjust the steering, not the screw for the cover. Because of the adjusment screw being stripped, I now have A LOT of play in the steering.

OK so sounds like you can just buy a used cover (junkyard?) with adjustment screw and replace cover-not sure if you can do this with box installed.
