I had been having problems with the bus stalling after it warms up. Instead of posting I did a lot of searching and found all the information I needed. I adjusted the choke--same problem. I took apart the carb (h30/31) and replaced the float needle valve and cleaned all the jets. The float was the solid black kind and when I shook it it didn't have fuel inside and it floated in warm water. I did more searching and came across a post that talked about over time these solid floats can absorb fuel and become heavy. I went to the local vw parts house and bought a float. The difference in weight was noticeable right away. When I put in the new float it immediately floated in the bowl! I put it all together and now the bus idles fine and it also cured my warm starting problem.
I'd like to thank all of you guys that help us newbies. I'd also like to thank peaceful warrier who answered my emails with advice. He lives in the same state as I do, but not the same town. There is so much information to learn when searching. It also felt good to fix it myself, but I couldn't have done it without this great site. 8)
