A couple of years ago while at a Bug show in NC, my headlight switch went out. Well I live in Va, none of the venders had any for sale. To make it back home (6hours) I twisted all the wires together in a wire nut. It has worked for me so far. I'm wanting to put in a toggle switch but not sure what I need. Any and all advice would be appreciated.

Not sure which of your bugs you are refering to so I've added links for both types of headlight circuits from Speedy Jim's site:

A new switch is $20!

Toggle switches don't belong in a Beetle and you would lose the ability to dim the dash lights. Also you would need a DPDT with off position as the headlights and running lights have different power sources. (#30 & #X)

You can readily find them for sale in the Samba Classifieds. Why rig it when you can get the proper switch?????

I bought a replacement light switch (Brazillian made) from Bap-Geon here in Norfolk.
