View original topic: Ground Strap Question

Intermittent starting problems on a '74 vert, have fairly quickly narrowed down to a main ground strap from battery that's pretty messed up and not conducting well to the body.

OK..here's a pretty stupid question, but can't find in Bentley or searching here...
The bolt that holds the ground strap from battery (-) to body...is there
a threaded insert used for the bolt, or is there a nut (hidden on the backside) just going to spin/drop off as I try to to loosen? (need to put some blaster on it first, 'cause it's tight..battery already removed from car so no problem there). If there is a nut, where do I locate it on the outside? This will also let me know if I need a second person on the nut while I'm spinning the bolt.

Thanks.. :)

All I have ever seen used is an welded nut. Try a little heat, even a propane torch will do on the bolt.
