putting beadlocks on wide five wheels?

that would take alot of work and $$$ and they will never be balanced right

some guy at the shop told me it was like more for looks(fake ones not real ones), itll work but not as good as a real beadlock wheel

It is not that difficult. You can get kits from several companies and if you are careful about the installation they will balance just fine. They come in either steel or aluminum varieties so putting them on steel wheels is a piece of cake.

beadlocks are imperative.... but on old school steel wheels.. maybe not worth the money... the steel wheels are way heavy... I weighed a set of 31" bfgs once on steel wheels, and then mounted them on center lines... the bfg with a centerline weighed less than the steel rim alone!

I don't think the OP was referring to fake beadlock wheels.

Us class 9 guys are required to use steel wheels. We pretty much get them from a place called Custom & Commercial Wheel out in Fontana, ca. I have pasted the link below but we typically use the Series 29 Wheel.

To get to the point I called and asked them how much to moake those wheels bead locks and if my memory servers me it was about $80 per wheel. That basically doubles the price but it might be an alternative for you.

I like the thoughts so far. I'm going for a steel wheel that is cheap and easy to find (just in case I bend one). I think they might look kinda cool powder coated flat black with functional beadlocks. What do you guy's think? Anyone see this idea on a baja before?

Do you actually need bead locks? HOw many times have you un-beaded one? Light is ALWAYS better than heavy. Centerlines can taken an absolute beating and not loose air or tires. Just my $0.02 8)

On my old car, about 17 or 18 times over the last three seasons. I drove it like I stole it. However when I finish this new car I'll be handing it over to my sixteen year old daughter. So I really don't want any unnecessary worries.

  I have two daughters. They are now 22 and 26. I'll be paying for you. :D But really if you are loosing that many beads then I'd be looking at bead locks also. Maybe she'll only dive it like its her dads not like she stole it. HeHe.

If she drives it nice then I won't get my moneys worth. That also means that she was NOT paying attention when I was showing her how to drive.

the rock crawler guys around here buy weld-on kits. a ring is welded to your rim but i'm not sure if they cut off a piece of the rim or weld to the lip.....

i don't think they cost very much but i don't know where to get them. you might ask at pirate4x4.com.

Some weld in beadlock kits you need to machine the lip off to install them and others just lay in the rim and you weld it to the outer edge of the rim.

I ran some 12” wide steel beadlocks and they weighed 45lbs each. I now have Weld and Duralite dirt track aluminum beadlocks that are 14” wide and they only weigh 15 lbs each. I have bent both my rear 3x3’s and ripped out the spring plate bolts in the last few rolls I have had and the rims are still strait. The unsprung weight is killer, so if you have the money go with aluminum. I spent 100 each rim from ebay and had my stepfather make the adaptors for me.

Here is a shot of my beadlock with the adaptors.

Here’s an install video
