Hi all,

I dont know if its a problem or not - i drive my SB not every day so i notices that if i leave it for more than one day without driving, it takes a 10 to 20 seconds of cranking with the gas pedal at bottom in order for it to start. if i later (after i finish working) on the same day start the engine, it only needs to smell the scent of the starter and it fires up without even touching the gas pedal.
i also noticed that when this problem happens, the transparent fuel filter next to the carb is empty like the fuel gone back to the tank.
any idea any one ?
thanks !!

Methinks the valves in your fuel pump have seen their better days.

Me thinks ur car is gonna catch fire if that fuel filter stays in there!

Even if the fuel line empties, there is still fuel in the bowl.

When this problem is occuring, what is your startup procedure? 1 pump, 2, none? Is your choke properly adjusted? Does the accelerator pump work?

MUST I remind you of Samba Edict 32817?!?

Thanks all for your answer.

regarding fire, the fuel filter is way far from the motor itself and is fixed not to move or hit anything from vibrations.

i do not know if the choke is adjusted right or not - how do i check?
what is the accelerator pump and how do i check if it is working?
startup procedure - you mean how do i start the engine ?

what about Samba Edict32817 ?

Yes, but it can still cause a hard-start condition. Witness VW p/n#113 127 405:

Retrofitted to '61-'65 fuel pumps to stop fuel backflow. The later square-top fuel pump has an anti-backflow valve located in the top of the diaphragm housing.
