i was wondering if i could just bypass the cable in the glove box??? i just want to be able to open it from the hood latch...having the cable going into the glove box is just a pain in the ass...my buddy has a 71 super and mine is a 71 standard and he's able to open from the front ....he doesn't remember how it was done considering it was restored 16 yrs ago....thanks for any suggestions

I'm sure you could rig up something: at the latch end the cable is just bare metal, so a universal type cable could be rigged up. The question has to be: WHY? That would take much more effort than doing it the stock way, even if a new glove box needed to be installed. I did mine on my '71 a few years ago, easy, see photo below. I used two rivets and a screw to mount the latch itself, and forward of that I used two bolts/nuts to hold a bracket.

If you want it non-locking, do a Search here someone else just asked that and got a response how to set that up.

All you need to do is remove the spring and nut from the latch. With it removed it will not lock and you can just press the button on the handle and raise it open.
