I'm thinking about something more simple here, so skipping a lot of the posts. Apparently the engine was running before the generator was replaced. 1073 didn't state whether he removed the engine or not when he did his generator R&R. So I'd re-check suff that was "touched" in making the R&R (even if you already did that) and re-check as fan shroud was removed for this whether engine pulled or not):
Is fuel line hooked up and fuel getting to the carburetor?
Are spark plug wires REALLY attached to the correct spark plug (MANY here have thought that they got them back in the right order, but didn't).
Are wires to the coil positive side (ignition wire, carb choke heater wire, carb electrojet wire) all hooked up correctly, and ONLY the green distributor wire hooked up to the negative side?
With key on is there really 12 volts positive getting to coil positive side?
Do you have a dwell meter to check on the points gap (I know you said you did them already, but again, worth re-checking). |

| i didn't say it did....... merely suggesting something else......when someone says all parts that make sparky spark are new and that they have checked all the things suggested...... instead of continuing to redefine insanity (following the same procedure expecting a diff result) i just throw it out there |

simple usually is the key
it was the auto choke on the wrong coil terminal that was it.
another precaution for those replacing the generator,
DONT DO IT IN THE DARK.
i put the gen strap too far back and it threw off the angle for the whole thing and lots of grinding ensued.
Thanks to all those who rallied together to save my Baja. |
