Are you looking for a Class 5 race engine or just a prerunner motor?

A competitive 5 unlimited T4 is pushing 3 liters and the going rate these days is $12-15K. If this isn't in the cards there are a number of less expensive T4s on the market right now, just search a few sites' classifieds.

Well, figure it wasn't pushing around a large loaf of metal that was full of stink foot hippies.... Not to mention the other reasons

true. that should work better than my 1915?

Gonzo 5/1600 Fri Nov 06, 2009 8:07 pm

There's plenty of debate about T1 vs. T4 they each have their own trade offs. I've been happy with my 2.0L T4 in my prerunner baja, I'm preparing to rebuild it so I can realize its full potntial...

Oh yeah, lots of options there too.

An is that motor still race legal also

Gonzo 5/1600 Mon Nov 09, 2009 11:53 pm

Yes, the class five motor rules are pretty open as long as the engine is a 4 cylinder aircooled pushrod VW based type or a VW liquid cooled 4 (in rare cases).

The common hot ticket 5 unlimited motor is a 3 liter type 4 with gigantic heads, dual carbs, 911 cooling etc.

But unless you're planning to race 5 open a type 4 of a less extreme nature can be built for much less.

yes the occasional race in 5 open will be done. im sure i wont be as fast as the big guys but they also break the motors alot also. but i think i wanna ditch the 1914 an go with a reliable type 4. not saying the type 1 isnt reliable. but would like sum more torq. where else can i find a type for other than the 2.0 914?
