Hi everyone

I've finally got my 74 Superbeetle to start but it doesnt idle. I havent yet done the vw-resource recommended carberator adjustments. First, I wanted to know how i go about finding, inspecting and cleaning the idle jet. I dont even know where it is!!

Im a newbie so any suggestions are welcome- even elementary ones. Thanks!

When troubleshooting carb problems I like to start at the source - at the tank. Is it rusted? Fuel filter clear? Any rust flakes? Then I blow out the hard line through the pan with compressed air. Then move on to the carb. You can pull the top off and check the float bowl for debris. Then the jets can easily be removed and cleaned out.

Mine gets a quick cleaning once every 6 months or so just to be sure.

See the info about the pilot jet in this thread.

thanks!
i found where my idle jet is and blew through it and it didnt seem to be clogged with anything. I took it out for a drive (for the first time in months) and it actually held up pretty well- although my carburetor started to fall aaprt. the Fast idle cam and the nut that holds it and the little tension thing in place had fallen off in the test drive. I guess that means i was meant to purchase a new carb after all ... =0/
