Got my CB !!! :D super nice....got it off of amazon for half the price.

i've decided to take the more logical way of wiring the CB to the fuse box as oppose to the battery. I am moderately skilled at electrical wiring, however, im a bit confused on how exactly i connect the positive wire into the fuse box to get power. So im praying to the vw god that some one can provide me with step by step instuctions and perhaps a few pictures???

thanks!

It doesn't have an accessory plug on it that you can just plug into your cigarette lighter?

hippieguy123 Fri Nov 06, 2009 6:23 pm

The black wire goes to earth (ground) and the red wire goes to the fuse of your choice.

you're giving hippies a bad rep dude

yesss i am aware of red to fuse black to ground....but im not sure as to how to get to the socket of said fuse to attach the wire

Daverham Fri Nov 06, 2009 8:03 pm

^ yeah, that's it. Don't forget the antenna. I'm pretty sure you can't mess that one up - you got a CB antenna, right?

Speaking and mic are built in. Red+ Black ground (probably has an inline fuse already). That's it. Done. Breaker breaker, good buddy.

yes i have the antenna...i was just hoping to find someone who knew how/where to connect the red wire within the fuse box.....??
thanks,

Which fuse you use depends if you want it to shut off with the key or work while parked, if you want key power do this.
Go at your fuses with a test light and find the ones that are always powered, then find the ones that only have power when the key is on, pick one of those.
Remove the chosen fuse and probe both tabs that held the fuse for power, the terminal behind the dead tab is where you connect the radio to (reinstall the fuse too).

Simplified? absolutely, but it sounds like you are really struggling with this.

make sure to get a SWR meter and calibrate your coax/antenna accordingly..
youll be suprised how much better a calibrated setup works over plug and play.

what kind of radio did you get what king of antenna you plan on using?

anything without an amplifier a wilson magnetic mount "lil will" will work fine.

if you wanna get out a lil further get a wilson 5000 and a palomar ;)

did you get a radio with SSB capabilities?

struggling yes....to find someone to assist with directions...until you came along :D
ok so what you've said helps...but i got in there today and took the fuse box down....wires going everywhich way of course...two rows of teminals on within the box...then i saw two other meatal boxes mounted under the dash next to the fusebox with wires connected to it...??
so now im going...WHERE should my RED wire go??
ha what an adventure

I hope this is simple enough.

-If you have a red and a black, they connect to to two places.
-Black goes to a ground in the metal area around the fuse box somewhere, take your pick
- Red goes to the fuse box. Check the owners manual for the fuse thats empty (meant for accessories) and then use a test light to make sure its working.
- Pull the fuse box and find the spade connector that corresponds with the fuse you chose.
- On the red wire, install a nice soldered connector and apply it to the proper spade connector on the fuse box.
- reinstall fuse box

Done

The antenna is a no brainer, just run the wire and plug it into the CB

Got air?

hippieguy123 Sat Nov 07, 2009 11:50 am

try grass...hahah
yeah...i think i got it now ;)

(for whoever asked) its a Uniden C-78 Elite chrome and orange lighting matches meh bus :D

im thinkin' a magnetic wilson....i'd love to have a 102'' whip....but thats not happening....talk about clearance....so i may shop around for a few days
thanks for the help

I belive they are for turn signal flasher and something else. Haven't had to replace the other one yet :-)

Also on a late bay camper where would be the best place to mount an antenna can't really use a magnetic mount since i've got a fiberglass top, don't really want a gutter mount. So if anybody has any picks of alternate mount locations :-) you can pm them to me or if the original poster dosn't mind a bit of a hijack.

A GOOD magnetic antenna, the Wilson Lil Will, will stick to the small metal area where the pop-top latch is connected to the roof. That's where mine is, and I have no issues.

kerian159 Sat Nov 07, 2009 4:05 pm

anyway you could supply me with a pic? :-)

Jay

You can kind of see it here. This was after driving through a bad rain and hail storm in the Arizona desert; held just fine.

I went through several 'Radio Shack' antennas before I shelled out the $s to get a good antenna.

Collie Sat Nov 07, 2009 4:17 pm

Here is mine....works great.....folds down when not in use and just flip it up to use it....simple :)

kerian159 Sat Nov 07, 2009 4:21 pm

thanks for the pics. any recommendations on where and how much to pay for one of the Wilson Lil Wil antenna's?

Jay
