View original topic: What's it worth

I was recently approached, by happenstance, by a colleague who's parents inherited a '71 vert, in "good shape" and "without rust" (utah car)

Formerly, they had tried to sell it on ebay, but "didn't know how" to work ebay.

I told my colleague to ask them what they wanted for it.

Assuming it runs and drives, and is in good condition, what is a ballpark range for a reasonable price?

No pictures, and I can turn a wrench.

Sorry for such a noob question.

Hey, where in MN are you? I would say offer $3500 to start with if it is truly rust free and runs.

I would try $3k as a good first offer. I see them going around here for around that number although not convertibles. I saw a totalled 77 convertible w/bent pan and everything go for $2k though. Just depends on how badly they want to part with it and how well they are doing.

The verts command a significant price premium over the sedans.

Verts can be a can of worms. If the top is damaged, you could easily spend 2k to have it repaired. Package trays, rear quarters, heater channels are prone to rust. Sometimes these areas do not stand out to most folks. One persons "good shape" could cost your another 5k just to make is solid [no paint, no interior, just solid]. Make sure your inspect it well before you offer anything.

check out www.ksl.com ... look under the classifieds section under cars, you can do a search for make and whatnot. See if they have it listed on there.

If it is, you may be able to get more info.

If not, then they really might not know how to work ebay.

ksl is the local news network in Utah, have online ads and whatnot for everything.
