I'm in the home stretch of the rebuild of a '71 Super for my stepson. I went to the junkyard and got "new" wiring to replace the mouse-eaten wires that were in the Bug (removed the switches from the dash, removed the fuse box and cut under the front seat and steering column)
I'm getting there and using a wiring diagram... BUT some of the colors aren't quite adding up. I left all the wires connected to the switches, so no problems there.
There are some thick wires... specifically a solid white and white with black stripe. Where do these go???
I have the flasher relay, door buzzer relay (disconnected) and another relay (high beams or 4 ways) on the top of the fuse box. Not sure what that relay is (looking from inside the trunk it is to the far left of the box)
Gas tank... 2 clips on the sender but no original wire... how to wire that up to the gauge
Tons of wires in the engine compartment... need to figure those out.
Lastly, timing... 34 PICT 3 carb and 113905205 AN dizzy... 1600 DP engine... what should the timing be? |

I think I have some of this... but...
The engine compartment has 4 wires that look like go to the generator. 2 are marked "34" (one is red one is black) there is a green wire and a thinner black wire (which is shorter and assume goes to the screw towards the back of the generator)
I have a '59 that also has a 1600 DP, but it has an alternator. A trip to the junkyard yielded no info... the generators I found had 3 wires, not 4.
Also, need to know how to wire the gas sender to the gauge and fuse block...
HELP!! |
