View original topic: Looking for pics of bone stock 72's

I've looked around, I've Googled, and I've checked on the archive section on here.

What I'm looking for are pictures of bone stock 72 Super Beetles (outside, inside, dash, etc.). I've tried to piece together some from a variety of sources, but there are always differences since people have added, subtracted, modded, etc. (which is fine, don't get me wrong). I'm in the process of obtaining another 72 and want to bring it back to stock and would like some pics for reference.

Anyone have any links or have pics of theirs? Yellow ones would be preferred :)

Here is one from the outside

Is that one yours? If so, could you take me a close up of the top of the hood?

yup...this one is mine. Is this what you are after?

I've got lots of pics. But let's target things. WHAT are you looking for? What info do you need? What sources have you checked?

The product literature is a good place to start. So is looking over at 1302super.com.

Thanks for the pics of the hoods, that was what I was looking for as far as the hood (mine is missing the chrome stripe and VW emblem and I thought something went in those holes :).

I'll check out 1302super.com as well, thank you.

Ah, the 72 brochure and the owner's manual I found on here actually helps quite a bit - thanks everyone.

Can anyone tell me if this was an original steering wheel option or accessory? I would assume so since it's in the brochure...

A couple of observations and related questions about the ad...

1. Though the ad is about the '72, the car pictured seems to be a '71 (note wiper switch on dash) -- perhaps an ad-agency error? Seems strange that VW would not notice - or they thought the diff too minor.

2. It mentions that the valve seats were "reengineered" for unleaded -- anyone know what exactly was changed? I thought I had read that unleaded was ok even with the earlier cars -- at least from ~67-on).

The steering wheel is not the default one that came with a 72.

The valve seats were hardened to keep the valves from travelling up into the heads as they wear.

Thank you for the pic!

Also, I figured out what the steering wheel is. Unless I'm wrong, it's a Superior 500 series steering wheel. Of course now that I know what it is and have decided I like, it would HAVE to be a "rare" item and be expensive

teal68, whats up with your bumpers...don't look like a 72??
