Hi, i've recently completly tore down a spare engine i got that was locked up and now i want to rebuild it, I called advance auto to see if they have rebuild gasket kits and i was told i have to tell them whether it's an AH or AK engine. I told them it was for a 74, though i'm pretty sure thats wrong. It's a 1600cc dual port with a generator (i think)
the only numbers i could find are
s 4 1
211 101 101D (on both sides of engine case)
113.129.701AG (carb manifold)
113 101 211 E (Generator stand)
one of those might not even be the vin number, if it isn't can someone guide me to it..
thanks

| Well, it's not really a VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), just an engine serial number. |

Here's the link. After 1970 the monthly engine number information is not available.

It was remanufactured, probably by an aftermarket company who attached their own identifier tag to it. |

That one was probably a Vege-Motoren European rebuild, sold in the US by ATK. Their tags look like this:

Well, I don't know. The 5561 was their series number though. And I don't have a chart of their codes anywhere. Even 10 years ago, I don't belive they had anything but 1600s they would build. Now, I don't think I've ever seen the 5561 before. Nor a T-number after it. A T was type 3 1600 engine, but if this was originally a T-block the original serial number was located elsewhere, along the crankcase seam on top of the engine. Then again it could have been a type 2 or universal case they overhauled and desgniated for a type 3 application. You could always try to pop that tag off, but who knows what you'll find under it. Personally, with remanfuactured engines like this I'd assume it's a 1600, and you'd have to go and dig into it for the details (single/dual relief, 8 or 10mm head studs, dished or flat cam, engine size, etc etc)
BTW- an original T-block serial number looks like this:
