I noticed gas comming out of the exhaust after I jacked up the bus to fix a tire issue. The PO said something about a part on the carb sticking occaisionally so I pulled on the throttle lever and this part spung back. Im not a good carb person but I suspect that if this piece was sticking that maybe the fuel would keep flowing and settling into the exhaust.
If it is sticking what do you recommend?
The oil looks perfect and doesn't smell like gas.

Thanks for any help. |

| Allows the fast idle speed to be rduced via a few steps as the engine warms up and the choke comes off. |

The Red circle, at the Bottom and just to the left, The part that looks like a bolt, and the threads are showing, Thats what sticks, needle valve,
take the top off just like in that photo, you can do that with out removing the carb, remove the needle valve a blow it out, it may or may not work, if not then buy a carb kit, The kit will have a new valve,
set the float level, there should be something on this site in there technical ( above) on that
what you have circled is the fast idel cam for the choke |

Have you ever noticed that your bus idles kinda high right after you start it (when cold), but then - if you are sitting and letting it warm up - if you tap the gas pedal, the idle drops down?
That's because of that stepped cam you circled. When it's cold it holds your throttle open (at a higher idle speed). As the choke warms it moves, which moves that stepped cam, and as that moves, your idle gets lower, if you tap the gas pedal and allow it to drop down. If that' sticking, you'll either have trouble starting cold, or you're idle will be too high, depending on which way it is stuck. That won't flood gas into your engine.
Gas flowing out is caused by a stuck needle valve, as described by towd. That's the "bolt-looking" thing at the bottom of the pic, also described by towd. |
