| BusDaddy is right, definitely Vanagon....and if you notice, it says WestFalia right on it, not Westphalia. |

Yeah I noticed that immediately. The owner says it is from Germany, but I wonder now. |

Not really sure I follow you on that one...why would you doubt it's from Germany? That's where Vanagons come from, that's where Westfalia campers come from....what's there to doubt? Westfalia is spelled with an "F" no matter where in the world you are, was my point. |

Unless you're from Westphalia, Missouri. Taken while driving my friend's '86 Westy from Colorado Springs to Ottawa, Ontario in Jun 2007.

Except, of course, in GERMANY......

So,..... exactly why do we spell it 2 different ways?

for the lazy, it's Westy. i try my hardest to avoid this term, but sometimes i slip and succumb to the external forces that corrupt my mind.
for the uninformed, brainwashed, or vanagon owners, it's Westphalia. never quite figured that one out since the word "Westfalia" is pretty clearly printed on many surfaces of the vehicle or literature. i know there is a region in Germany names Westphalia, but that is not the name of the camper conversion company.
the WORST offenders are people who think it's WESTIE. NO!! you need to be kicked in the face if you use this term to describe a VW camper. a Westie is a shortened name for a West Highland White Terrier, which i don't think i'd want to drive.
