71' Bus Popup
I have a leaking m/c and also the wires on the rear switch were severed. I got a new set of wires for the switch from a local VW shop. The old wires have one red, one red/black, and two black wires. The new wire set up I got have one red, one red/white, and one black. I connected the wires even though they don't match. I connected the two blacks to the one black and the red to the red and the red/black to the red/white.
Anyone have any ideas if this will work or wired correctly.
thanks! |

Both switches are wired in series, swapping colors on replacement wire doesn't matter unless you are trying to diagnose something in the future. Follow the diagram exactly and you'll be fine. How did you get 2 black wires on one terminal? (brake switches are F)

Thanks for the diagram. I haven't found one for a 71' yet. There are more than 40 diagrams out there I believe.
for the two black wires, I twisted them together and connected the two parts with wire connectors (crimping method). |

| The full diagrams are in the technical section here on the Samba. All 3 wires should have 2 terminals on them, each one stops at the first switch and then carries onto the second switch. |

busdaddy,
have you ever changed a master cylinder? Is there anything special about the installation |

| Nothing odd about the job, soak the nuts and brake line fittings with PB blaster a couple days ahead if possible and use a 11mm flare wrench, sometimes the lines sieze into the fitting nuts and start twisting off, careful. Also be gentle with the reservoir ontop of the master and the line that connects to it, easy to crack. |

| Do you have to bench bleed the new master? Can you install then bleed or is that too much air in the system? |

| I've never had to bench bleed, but getting it wet with brake fluid inside wouldn't hurt, usually gravity gets enough fluid in that it starts pumping on it's own. |

| Sounds good. I will get it lubed with brake fluid first. Then after install I will bleed all the brakes. |
