i have a 1600 i just pulled out of my 71 so i can send the shell out for paint but i figured now would be a good time to strip down the engine change all the seals and repaint and clean everything up before putting i back to gether anyone have any info on how o take everything apart.

I suggest you only remove the tins and have them painted. If nothing is leaking, then leave it alone. You might replace a dry seal only to have it leak after.

Also the fewer bolts you turn the less chance you have of snapping them.

im in the process of doing this right now to my engine. get your self an engine gasket kit from a reputable online dealer or local shop. take all the tins off replace the fuel pump gasket, carb and manifold gaskets, the gen/alt stand gasket, flywheel seal, push rod tube seals, oil cooler seals, and oil sump plate gaskets. just make sure all the mating surfaces are clean before putting the new gaskets on. not a bad idea to pressure wash the engine before pulling it apart, at least the long block anyways. just make sure the intake ports are sealed before washing.

note, the push rod tube seals require that you pull the heads, if your not comfortable doing this then dont pull them until you know what your doing and are confidant you can put them back on using the proper torque sequence.

a bentley manual and the idiot book will help the novice out considerably.
