ok so my page has been dead for awhile now but its time for updates and to get this thing goin again.. im not 14 anymore im now 16 turning 17 in june. the car is coming along finally. i just got most of the brake parts i need for christmas and sense have pulled all the drums off thepan and sandblasted and painted all of the backing plates and i have installed all new wheel cylinders. i am going to sandblast/paint all of the drums as well, i have a super nice set of O.G. empi 8 spoke wheels that i am going to be painting black. i also have all the brake lines(hard/soft) that i need as well. i bought a new master cylinder and replaced the old gunked up one that was on the pan when i bought it and rebuilt and painted my pedal assembly. i am also going to install all new brake pads and the hardware kits too. i bought all of my parts for my brake job from cip1.com there shipping is super fast and thier prices are fairly cheep, they carrrie almost any part you need for and vw you have. but once i get all the brake stuff done i will then go out to my buddies property and pick up my 68 body and the pan for my buddies convertable. once i have the body down at our shop we will lift it onto the pan and i will get the motor and everything put in and get the wireing going and hope to god she fires up  but thats about it for now Monday or Tuesday i will upload some pics of my progress. lets get this thread going again!! youngsters post your rides and feedback for me and ill be sure to get back at you i wanna get this going again lets do it and keep it alive.

ok so i have a motor which is made in mexico and im not totally sure but i think its a 1600cc. i have dual port heads on it and a header exhaust system. here it is.. not complete!!

now i want to know which carb the samba community would prefer. i have 3 to choose from.. the first one is a 30 pict 1 solex bocar made in mexico pictured at the right. and the one on the left is a 30 pict 2 solex made in W-Germany. the third not pictured is a solex brosol H30/31 pict made in brazil. which one do you guys think would be the best considering the setup i have?

I would go with the German carb also if the engine has been sitting for a wile I would look into just what you need to do before you turn it over for the first time. Keep up the work on this I have my 9-year-old son following this thread.

kjvforme Sat Jan 28, 2012 10:46 am

Since it's most likely a 1600 or larger I would go with a 34 Pict, otherwise your going to have to get an adapter to fit the 30, or H30/31 on to your dual port manifold set up. The one with the altitude compensator on it look like the one for a 1500 on 69, but was designed to fit the single port manifold.

thanks for the help guys. my buddy had another H30/31 layin around that was in good shape, and at first wouldnt give it up but we have worked out a deal and he is going to let me buy it off of him. and yes i do have the adapter for the carb to dual port intake.

Look's really good.

Just a heads up, in the pic of your motor, the Generator is on wrong. Needs to be removed and rotated to the right.

slammed sickness Sat Feb 25, 2012 12:45 am

mrbigmax Sat Feb 25, 2012 9:29 am

all i can say is ,
go DP head and dog house fan all the way and all tins.
(assuming it will not be a Baja, with open deck)

i did the same things as kid, bought basket cases, and made them run like new.
and way before a Lic to drive. (and never stopped, )

Go DP and watch out for crap clone parts...
