ya so do you need every piece of tin for the motor to run good

mschulze Tue Dec 08, 2009 2:18 pm

Every piece of Tin plays its special role in the air-cooled system . . .if you want your engine to run well . . .and for a long time . . .every piece is important

..although depending on who you ask some are more important than others. :)

Polar68 Tue Dec 08, 2009 2:21 pm

Im missing a few

mschulze Tue Dec 08, 2009 5:12 pm

me too

tailwaggers Tue Dec 08, 2009 6:02 pm

What is the function of piece #38? I think that is the only one I am missing and doesn't seem too important. Probably the first one most people lose, I'd guess.

slammed sickness Thu Dec 10, 2009 10:33 am

so im puttin either puttin 2 12'' subs in my bug as the back seat or just one in a bazooka thube not sure but im gonne take two spitty bus emblems and mount them over the subs how do you guys think that would look?

Rick73Super Thu Dec 10, 2009 11:07 am

Make sure everything is mechanically sound before you invest in sound.

Just a pulley guard - crosses over in front of the pulley and goes up and over the nut.

Took forever for me to find a good one for my project. Most cars don't have it, more often when you either have an unmolested car or want to do as accurate of a restoration as possible . . . like I am attempting :)

I believe the importance of the tin is directing air flow from the fan and preventing heat fron exaust pipes from rising up into the engine compartment adding excessive heat to the engine.

Don't buy sound stuff yet. But when you do, I'd recommend a single 12 or even a 10. Just get a good amp and sub and it'll keep up just fine.

keep the back seat, that is where you put all the hot chicks you'll be carting around :D

Since you're only 14, I suppose I should tell you that the assist straps on the b-pillar double as stirrups.

Get a slightly smaller box that will fit BEHIND the rear seat.....no reason to remove it!

#38?

You lost me there . . .

I just see the small pulley guard, no sure how that directs fan and hot air circulation.

The machine you have is a well thought out machine! There were a lot of big brains that worked on designing and building this thing.

Yes it is well thought out and they did it with brain power, something that still amazes me when working on it.

I got into this a year ago stripped the car down to just a frame put it back together made something road legal and drove it. It has been a real blast to do, my only regret is that I didn't get into this earlier like you are doing. Check out the Bug Me video series. It was a big help to me. good luck!

Herbie still has a long way to go :)

BugMan114 Thu Dec 10, 2009 9:35 pm

Glad to see younger people workin on dubs. i'm 20, and got my first VW when i was 17. it was a 74 super, which i still drive everyday. so 3 years laer, and inow have 7. i had a dunebuggy, but traded it for a sand rail. Anyhoo, hope you'll have lots of fun wih it like i did with mine.

"Can you do burnouts?" Yes and no. don't try to do a burnout on the street. the only thing that will happen is the wheels will hop like crazy, its REALLY REALLY bad for the tranny (don't ask how i know that, hahaha), and you'll just end up shattering your clutch (happened to me twice, lol). but its fun to do burnouts on dirt, cuz it makes a nice big cloud of dirt, lol.

Here is a pic of my bug:

That was a while go. its in flat black primer. soon to be yellow.

slammed sickness wrote: can anyone tell me how to get more power out of my 1600 without spendin a bunch of money

Turbo that b!tch!!!!

That was before i finished the primer, lol. Ran pretty good for a while, but then the float in the weber progressive busted, and i needed to go to work, so i had to throw the stock stuff back on. i drove it with a turbo for about a year tho, and it was a bone stock 1600, lol.

Please disreguard the "epic fail guy", hahaha

It drove like a bat out of hell. really fast, and fun to drive. 8 lbs of boost, and lots O powah.

lol, but really, the easiest way to get more power, is to start with the simple things first. change oil, clean her up really good, new tune up stuff (cap, rotor, plugs, points, condenser, etc.), and to get all the adjustments spot on (timing, valves, dwell, etc.). after that, a stinger will give you more on the top end, later on, maybe a set of baby webers (Dual weber ICT's). maybe you could even port the heads.

good luck, and keep those pics commin 8)

I don't know drscope , that's some pretty sage advise coming from someone who is only 20 don't you think?

That's some go info to start with.
