I am looking for some info and feedback on which way I should go with my 1600, I'm in the market for exhaust, heads and a nice cam right now and there are a TON of options.

Here is what I know.

CAM
I don't care about fuel mileage, but this car is a daily driver.. a streetable cam would be nice..

I hear the engle 110 is a nice cam.. but I want something mid range that has a nice "chop" to it.

HEADS
Im still very open to options on the head setup.. I know I love to rev the rpms a bit.. so I'm sure that I will need a good set of springs, probably something similar to a LS1 spring or "beehive" As for brands and size of heads and all taht.. .. i don't know on VW's.

EXHAUST
I want something that will sound great, but not be annoyingly loud... I don't know what sounds well on a VW.. I'm open to suggestions.

I do not plan to make a race car out of this, but eventually I will be building a peppy 1776 down the road, I just want to have a nice fresh spare 16ooish to throw on my buggy when the other motor is finished and ready to install.

if you plan on keeping the egine a 1600 i recomend you look into CB performances "cheater cam", run a set dual carbs (kads or icts would be nice) and a header with single quiet pack. also a nice fluff and buff on your heads and perhaps match port the manifolds.

anything else id just build a 1776 or larger engine.

What is a fun and really enjoyable motor that you can recommend. I was told a 1776 is a good daily driver.. but im willing to sacrifice a little drivability for good old fashioned tire smoke.

The 110 cam is a good streetable cam. I would NOT go bigger. If you are opening up the case for a cam install a big bore piston/cylinder slip in kit. With the 110 cam use heavy duty single valve springs, NOT DUAL springs! Duals will flatten the cam in your application. Look at dual carbs and possibly bigger heads (meaning larger valves). Purchase an 019 distributor. You will enjoy the extra zip with the above combo. I run a 2375 cc combo in my dune buggy and it is a wheelie machine. Just remember that hp costs!
