View original topic: Wheels hot to the touch

This may be a stupid question....after driving my '79 vert the other day I dropped my keys on the ground by the front tire...the 'air felt warm'. I touched the wheel (stock sports rims) and it was hot to the touch (not supper hot, but hot). I then touched the other 3 wheels and they were warm/hot.

Is this normal? I never noticed this before. I just did a complete brake job, did I over tighten the axle nuts causing the bearings to over heat?

Thanks
Greg

Could possibly be that or you may have the shoes adjusted a little too tight, allowing them to rub on the drums and heat up.
They'll heat up from normal driving of course, but shouldn't be too hot to touch.
Did the "complete brake job" include new soft lines at the wheels too? The soft lines can deteriorate on the inside but still look ok from the outside and sometimes when that happens it will not allow the fluid to return after you release the brake pedal. That causes the brakes to be "on" and heating up until enough fluid seeps back out.
