Got word last night that a good customer/ friend who unfortunately passed a month or so ago left me her 1976 Marinogelb Westfalia. It's rust free and original except for a rear end "ouch" that I repaired and repainted for her a few years ago.

This Bus had the engine upgraded to the hydr. lifter engine by the first owner in the late 80s. I'm planning on adding VWOA dealer air and a side tent, so if anyone can point me towards good parts that'd be appreciated.

The interior needs a good cleaning, and I'll probably need to replace the driver's seat cushion cover and maybe the poptop tent. We're considering downsizing from our Mercedes O309D "Executive" Bus with Westfalia conversion and running the VW, but adding a side tent and rear tent extension.

I pick it up Saturday. Good thing I know the guy who repaired/ maintained it since 1998 really well. :lol: It's been sitting for a year. I got it started the other day where it sits and ran it around the block a few times. Battery was dead and it bucked like a bronco, probably because of the noisy collapsed lifters. I need to drive it about 35 miles home. Hope I make it- if not, there's always AAA. :lol:

i have some A/C parts pulled from buses. the main underdash unit, and some other bits and pieces.

Hey... i qualify, I got stuck driving Rob's Bay back from CTS.

I also won an award "Best Bay Passenger".

I do as well, and honestly I haven't been able to give them away. If they'll help you in adding A/C to your new bus, they are yours for shipping, plus a promise never to ask what tires are right for your bus or if GL-5 is ok for your transmission. :wink:

Not exactly. My first Bay was my only brand- new car, ever- my 1978 Westfalia. I got it on the VW dealership employee discount- Cost plus $200. Plus, I got my Ziebart and A/C at parts cost. I got to apply the Ziebart and install the A/C after hours. Was going to go for the gas heater too but couldn't afford it. :)

Plus, being a lifelong flipper, I've probably owned another 20 Bays at least over the years., as well as Vanagons, Beetles, and a couple Type 4s.

Alas my Westfalia didn't live long enough to get photographed as many times as Glenn's new VW. It got totaled while parked on the street in front of my frat house Fall of 1978. An intoxicated brotha in a deuce and a quarter shortened it a couple feet for me. I never ever bought another new car.
