I have a 1967 VW 1600 that was a single port til it was rebuilt. The mechanic combined it and a dual port engine of the same year. Now it has the dual port heads and intake but there are 2 tubes that come off the intake and go down and flange out ust above the exhaust ports. What are these for? This engine is going in an old sandrail and I have no idea what to do with these. Also can somebody point me in the right direction on how to adjust the valves?

Those flanges are for bringing hot exhaust up to heat the intake manifold. Do a search for valve adjustment here or refer to hibbard's book as to a good method for doing it. Welcome to the world of VWs!

Do stingers and other aftermarket buggy exhaust have a place to hook them up or can you block them off? What the heck do I need to do with them?

some aftermarket exhaust systems have no provisions for the factory heat risers. Ignore the fact that it is there, or cut it off at the manifold with a hacksaw if the aesthetics aren't to your liking.

there used to heat up the carb in cold weather, keeps it from iceing up. i've always gotten rid of them and either welded up the ports in the ex. manifold or got block off plates.
