i get pedal after 2 pumps. so im pulling the masatercyl today and replacing it again maybe my cheap master is the source of all my problems. i also checked nose to tail for leaks and found none and im not loosing fluid unless i blead them

is it still going to the floor or just spongy? if all your lines are good. and shoes adjusted correctly then ??? i don't know if there might be any small leaks where your resevoir line enters the master cylinder? maybe check that. It's wierd, but over the years it seems i've had vws that the breaks pump up great and hold great with little or no effort, and then i've had ones do the same thing you're dealing with. last resort if you've done everthing that you can, take it to a brake shop and have them pressure bleed the lines. may cost a few bucks but??? I myself have gotten it second nature to have to pump the breaks in certain vws. scary huh? good luck man, problems like this makes me wish i was close by so i could come and help. later

got the new master in and after bench bleading before bleading the brakes i have way more pedal then before

cool, hopefully your misery is over.

Nachodaddy77 Sun Dec 06, 2009 3:22 pm

fingers crossed just waiting for the GF to get off work so i can have my lovely brake bleeding assistant

Nachodaddy77 Sun Dec 13, 2009 9:09 am

got the brakes done. the third master cyl from autozone finally worked. im glad that is behind me.

now its time to address the off idle stumble. so i went the ign system thinking it was a missfire and found it to be ok. needed new wires anyway. so the next suspect is the 34 pict so i figured it needed a rebuild and maybe because its only a 1600 and i put a 1 5/8 header with stock 125 jets that the stumble was really just a super lean condition. (it only stumbled when it transitioned from the idle circut to the main jet and felt flat on power) so i went to a 135 main and it runs great but maybe only 80% so monday its back to bugformance for a 145 main but for now im content

thesatelliteguy Sun Dec 13, 2009 9:22 am

I had about the same problem. Maybe i'll drop a bigger main jet in there too.

got rear disks for the car a couple weeks ago had a bitch of a time bleeding it. a bad new caliper and the master cyl broke through the mount.

even with drum fronts and disk rear it stops perfect. the bias is now to the rear. these are by far the best parts ive put on the car

Nachodaddy77 Tue Feb 23, 2010 12:16 am

i probably shouldve said why i went to disks. well i was driving home after catering to my GF's prego cravings and heared a pop in the rear and the next day i pulled the drums and had a bad left wheel cyl and the right side tore the lining off the shoes and tore up the drum. i also need both axle seals so it was almost cheaper to swap in disks

chubby53 Tue Feb 23, 2010 12:18 am

what kind of disks did you get and how much?

Nachodaddy77 Tue Feb 23, 2010 12:36 am

its a empi/ac ind. kit. i paid 320 but i get a fat discount (i restored a white on white drop top for my boss and spent like 5k in two days at the local bug shop. so i dont know how much they normally are

chubby53 Tue Feb 23, 2010 12:55 am

i was going to say a drum and some brake parts i could find fairly cheap, probably have most the stuff laying around. good score. nice to hear it works for ya. nothing like having good brakes.

Nachodaddy77 Tue Feb 23, 2010 7:20 am

yeah i couldve found used parts but i didnt want to cheap out on something so important as brakes after the naster cyl fiasco

Nachodaddy77 Thu Mar 04, 2010 8:05 pm

just picked up a single 40 idf setup from empi. it was alot more work than i thought to install the kit. i bought it used but it was never installed in a car. drilled a hole to relocate the throttle tube and drilled right into the oil cooler. lol kinda miss measured by about a 1/2in. got everything fixed and now it runs funny, tried tuning the carb and the right side responds fine but the left side isnt pulling vacuum. weird right? turns out ive got 50psi on cyl 3 and 30psi on cyl 4. pulled the head and cyl 4 ring gaps were inline so i called it a day

Nachodaddy77 Thu Mar 04, 2010 8:11 pm

hope cyl 3 is the same way. is there anything i should look for before i put this all back together? im not sure if i should check the other side or wait til i have a problem. i didnt build the engine so who knows wtf this guy was thinking.
