Yes, I was finally able to work on it today. We had our club meeting at my house today too which was a lot of fun. We did some powder coating on a fellow club members dash pieces, as well as the ebrake in the 67. I also pressure washed all the moss and mold off of it and striped the interior. The heater channels should be here on Wednesday and I have a 5 day weekend.
Before pressure washing:
Interior gutted:
Going to need a package tray, and crossmembers:
Here's why I ordered heater channels:
Discovered some new rust I hadn't seen yet:
After pressure washing:
Decided to powder coat the ebrake in gloss black:
And best of all, I went to my local VW guy and bought a wiper switch. He didn't have the washer plunger though. Look what was hiding under the driver's seat:
Ebrake looks great. Makes the rest of the car look even shittier. :) |

| Harbor Freight powder coat system with Eastwoods High Gloss black powder. Thanks. I'm going to do the gear shift, and the doors that go on the heater vents in the same color. Also thinking about doing the heater handles in a silver I did the wheels for my Ghia in. If I like it, I'm going to do the bumper brackets in the same silver. I just can't wait to start welding new solid metal in. |

Well, my heater channels came today. Cip shipped me one of the correct ones, (passenger side) and one of the wrong ones (driver side). In their defense, it has a sticker on it that says it is correct for my car.
Correct heater vent:
Late style incorrect vent:
At first I thought about just cutting the vent out of the channel on the car, and making it correct, but on closer inspection, the whole channel is different. The carpet tab is different, the defrost hose hole is larger, etc. Sure it will fit, and it's better then what's there now, but I want it correct, so Cip will be fixing it or else. I am also considering cutting the indent that the aftermarket channel has out, and welding in the not indented piece off of the OG channel. |

Cut the heater channel out of the passenger side today. Found another couple of rodents nests. They were in the Y-tube for the heater, and in the heater channel it's self. Also found a screwdriver in the A-pillar. Probably been there 30 years, because the car hasn't been on the road since 81. The heater channel was an even bigger mess then I thought it would be.
I carefully drilled out and saved the heater door tang
Here's just how bad the channel actually was:
Here's the bottom, there's nothing left of it:
I'm going to get the floors for it in the morning. Going to pull the body off of it and replace them, then put it back and line the heater channel up. |

Took a road trip today. Bought a few things the 67 needed, as well as met a really nice guy off of TheSamba.
Got a correct German fender. The horn grill hole is correct on this one. I measured.
Got a door
No need to waste hours fixing the rusted other one.
He gave me this piece free!
Needs to be media blasted, but the price was great.
Got my pans too:

| I am off tomorrow and the Bug is in the garage. Going to clean up the last bit of heater channel and weld the new one in. I left the old pan in place to have the holes to line the channel up to. Going to have to pull the body off of the car. The pan is a mess and is going to need some serious attention, not just 2 new floor pans. |

Cut the back window out today to asses the rust:
Don't know how visable it is in the pictures, but there are two pieces of metal spot welded together in this area. The top piece is rusted away completely, but the bottom piece is intact. So all I have to do is get a donor piece and I can spot weld it in. Should clean up really nicely. I am hoping Mark1 has a good one I can cut off of a car. |

There you can see why I needed the piece the master cylinder bolts to.
Also need to order myself the bottom plate for the frame head. Found some holes in the spare tire well, so I'll be ordering that piece as well. At least I am starting to see progress though. |

Got to do some minor reconstructive surgery to the a and b pillars. Just tacked it in for now. Also need to get better at welding. :) What a huge improvement though! Can't wait to get the floors done. It will be like a whole different car. |

| Yes, it's cheap too. Like $14. I am going to order it, and cut out of it what I need. Like to leave as much of the OG metal as possible. |

I took a lunch break and relaxed a little. When I came back I cleaned up the welds and cut the brace out. Tacked a few more welds in here and the. The door closes fairly well.
I also decided to start pulling some of the brake backing plates off and get them ready. My new brake parts arrived today. The front brakes were so rusted they can't be saved. The adjusting stars had actually rusted to the block they are in so much it had become one piece.
There's no saving that. There is one in the classifieds, so as soon as I have the money I'll order it.
Here is the driver's side rear. It's almost all media blasted and ready to be powder coated. Going to do it in high gloss black.
