Just pulled the engine on my 75 Westy. I have the fuel line kit from Germansupply. It's on my list of things to do. Other things include:
1. remove engine tin, clean, paint.
2. clean wiring
3. exhaust
4. heater system delete/update
5. Remove fuel tank, replace all rubber, hoses.
6. Replace rusty battery tray
Questions - what's a good heater delete mod - I'll never use it and the old boxes are rusty. Also, how tough is it to replace the throttle cable? Also - any other things to do with engine out?

Not really a good "heaterbox delete" option for us type 4 guys.
Just pick up a good set of heaterboxes and make it work right, although it is kind of hard to justify when it is in the 90's here today isn't it. Someday you will want to have heat/defrost.
The usual sources are the wreckers and the classifieds. I think I paid about $150 for a nice set from Interstate VW in Riverside, CA.
Some solvent and compressed air helps make those cable tubes work better. I used WD40 or something like that.
Some sound deadener is nice to have in the engine compartment/behind the gas tank. |

| check your cv boots and joints - replacing is much easier when the engine is out. |
