occasionally when my car backfires i am getting a blue flame from atop the carb via the air filter.

i know i have loose/stripped rusted bolts where the exhaust meets the case and i gotta get that taken care of.

did you have a question?

Ignition timing is probably not correct. Sounds like it's time for a major tune up at the least.

timed it better and used a coat hanger to secure the header to the block for the time being.

If you have it timed corectly and it still backfires through the carb. then you have a intake valve problem on one of the cylinders.

It sounds like time to redo your engine.! If you have flames coming out of the carb i wouldnt drive it your just asking to burn your car up. At very least i would put on new heads.
