But not with my new WCM seal !
I hope that seal is better than the WCM stuff that I've gotten lately... If not, be prepared to do it again inside of a year.
Why do you say that? The reson i ask is because i just ordered a bunch of seals from them.
I completely redid a '57 Single Cab over last winter/ spring.
I'd used WCM stuff in the past with no issues- great stuff actually- but it's probably been seven years or better.
Ordered all seals from WCM thru my local supplier. Assembled all the rubber stuff in April. Finally rolled the completed truck out of the shop in August.
After three days in the sun, all of the drop gate bumpers were splitting and blistering. Replaced them with the CORRECT bump stops from WW. A couple of those were slightly blistered right out of the package, but they're holding up so far. We'll see.
The quarter window seals are already drastically shrunken. The seals that go between the window assembly and the door body are beginning to shrink also.
The front windshields are starting to leak already. One of them fit great, the other one needed black silicone adhesive in two corners to make it "form".
I'm probably going to wind up doing this all over again next spring. This is just unbelievable. I've talked to others who are experiencing the same quality issues. Seems to be a recent thing.
-THE bumpers are US made and i dont see what went wrong, maybe not enough rubber in the mix.
-the vents which i think you call quarters are Brazilian and bound to shrink, dont think there is a Synthetic source or German.
-the windshield are usually good as ive them used them many times and my buddy has a set still after 3 years that look good. WCM has a lifetime warranty on the rubber they make and if you distributor wanted to call and get it changed out, that's no problem.
Actually The correct windshield seals, Vent seals, main door seals, side window seal, Samba curved, rear window and roof window seals are all still available in German by an OEM on the original equipment. Made from EPDM btw. They even have the correct jet formed corners so they do not draw up and leak like the units Tram received. The OEM window scrapers are even available for the bay bus. They just are not cheap which is why most vendors have stopped carrying them. Why do it right when you can do it cheap? |

Good to know, Bobby. When I pull it apart again, that's how I'll go. |

Soon in an e-catalog I hope. I have all the lists and nice pictures of the parts but I not a web guy. I am trying to find a program to make it copy and paste. Maybe an e-catalog maker for dummies. |

I DONT speak for the company by no means and im not the designer or manufacturere of the products, but what i know from doing my own thing is that when many folks piss and moan for something ,whine and cry, not even bitch, thats too good of a word, one must evaluate wether or not its even worth to try to make a repop. after i made my first dash i got some support but others were just plain hating or trying to find a flaw in my plan.
so would you rather have a $500 product that many old timers believe should still only cost $50? no many cry about the costs of things these days and very few will just pay it and understand the aftermarket and costs involved, while one guy says ill pay xxxx amount, there are ten others who wont, My piece fits good but is not always perfect, you want perfect go talk to to santa or some other fairy tale. when the shits there no one wants it but when its n/a everyone says i want one.
and what year is that off white bug anyway, your pics show two different part numbers. one up to 70 the other 71 up. the one that deletes the grab has larger vents for defrost. oh and Wolfsburg sells the same dash too. good luck with that. stop bitching and make one yourself next time. the scene is full of whiners. |

| so your the one with the OEM terminals. I was just looking at those and getting ready to make a order. In my shop I try hard to fix wiring as good as stock from cutting ends off old wiring and reusing them it will be nice to have some new ends that are right. As for people paying what its worth I know I see it all the time in my shop. Thay seen to think its 1970 inclueding the vw club up here. |

Yes, somehow they expect the same prices from 30 years ago. Just as costs for homes, food etc etc have gone up so has the cost of doing business. The new OEM seals are made with EPDM which has an even better UV and Ozone resistance than the originals. And those of us that have been around awhile know how good even those were. |
