| I've been doing a little research on which carb to get for my T-4 motor. Airheads say for an off road car a single carb is better http://www.aircooled.net/gnrlsite/resource/articles/carbs101.htm some say that duals when set up properly are MUCH better. I'm not looking to drag race or run at high rpm's all of the time, so I'm leaning towards a single. But which one? aircooled does have some guide lines but was gonna ask you guys. I'm going to leave it stock for now, but would be enlarging it when the time come to rebuild it. So I'd like to leave that path open. I don't want a carb that I'm constanly have to mess with :shock: |

you will get srong arguments for both !
IMO for off road a single IDF is a perfect setup, the carb is more protected from flying rocks, dirt, tree branches and any other things that can be flung at it from the rear tires. |

dual carbs... my boy Rich had problems all day long running a single mount IDF....(mostly serious dead spots/hesitation), why, he only had half the carbs!
No problems now with the dual webs on a 1776 |

With out heat a single will NEVER run right. Duals will give you better performance and do not need heat. Just be sure to use good air filters or build a filter breather box setup. |

I have my duels set up about as good as you can get for offroad. I still have times it builds up. The trick is to keep the RPM's up in the rough. I would go single but I cant get enough fuel through 1 carb for my taste.
Then again having good suspension will do wonders for duels.

fuser is right, on a type 4 go with dual carbs..... but on a type 1 you can heat up the intake manifold pretty good where a single can be tuned pretty good. |

x2 as long as your on the throttle dual carbs are great. Its when you need low speed finese in first gear they can be a challenge. I have one dual carb engine for the dunes and a single carb engine for tight trails. These days the way to go would be FI. |

Dual 44s on a 2275.Wouldnt have any less in the dunes.No issues i check sync a couple times a season and and no change.
No flat spots motor pulls nice.Tune them right they will be trouble free.I never had any experience with duals til i got a sand rail in 05 started off with kads and a 1776 then a 1914 with the 44s and now the 2275.There aint much to them. |

I keep toying with the idea of using a megasquirt EFI on my 1600, but that would do nothing but keep me off the road longer. |

Megasquirt....... The only expense is throttle bodies, once you get past that its all pretty much generic plumbing and electronics..... And ECU is completely programmable from laptop or if you have desk top in garage and long cable....

| I run dual 40 idf's on my 1915 and it runs great. Never had an issue with them other than they are very sensitive to altitude change. |

Megasquirt takes some time to set up but check this out. Sounds like a great Idea, especially on a relatively stock motor.
