My bug has been sitting for about 3 days with out starting because i am sanding it at the moment and today when i tried to start it, it wouldn't turn over.
I inserted the key into the ignition and it turned over but didnt start up. Then i tried again and it didnt even turn over. After repeated attempts still same thing. I can hear the small click sound when i turn the ignition key but there's no spark.
I searched the forums and couldn't find a post with my similar problem, if an admin does find one feel free to post the link and lock this thread.
Thanks guys, appreciate your input. Newbie here. |

| How old is your battery? Have you tested it? If it's newer, is your gen or alt on the way out? Have you tried boosting the car? |

| Just a thought... Switch on your key and turn on the headlights for a minute or so. If they are dim or out, its likely the battery. Mine did the same thing and the click I heard turned out to be the starter solenoid. My batt would work great for about two days but then it would dive all at once overnight to near dead. |

You'll need a voltmeter or test light to check this out. Your battery voltage (measured at the battery, when trying to start) should be at least 9.6 volts if your battery is good.
Did you try to jump start with another vehicle - that can eliminate the bad battery question. |

Key being measuring it while attempting to start, correct? Need a buddy on that one I guess.
I completely agree with the post on cleaning connections though. Whether or not its the problem, clean it anyway. |
